I reinstalled the Q3Radiant system and am having a problem with my new map.

Now you WOULD think that this patch is laying on top of the road, right?

Guess again:

This is my problem. I can see my selected patch through my other (non-selected) patches. When I copy a patch from one of my old maps, I don't have this problem, I can use it in my new map, copy it it in my new map, and paint height the way I should paint it.

Can anyone help me on this, it's probably just a bad setting, somewhere, I checked all of my setting and nothing looked different, or, at least, looked like it could ahve been causeing the problem.

It's also not a texture problem, I can apply the same texture as the good patch, and it still won't work.

Adn another thing, if youlook at the first screenshot, you would also think that the selected patch isn't lining up with the house....But it is...If I get closer to the selected patch, and the house, it looks like my patch is moving....

Hard to create a descent map with nice transitions between patches if you haven't got any perspective.

Well it's been 6 months since I posted this, I think you've gotten enough time to read and reply...

I'm still having this problem, I'm seeing my selected patches through my buildings, roads, etc.
I have searched Google, this site, ...

C'mon, someone MUST know![banghead]

when there's a terrain mesh with an alpha texture on top of a terrain mesh with a normal texture and you select the normal terrain mesh then you will always see the normal textured terrain mesh. the same with a brush and an alpha textured mesh, you will see the whole brush when you select it. I hope that you mean this cause I can't see the screens anymore.

ok you say u have one patch above the other ?
or one patch is uneven ?
are the 2 ptaches joining ?

my 3 ???

#1 if so try this open the editor go to top view.

#2 select 1 patch look to see were the patch ends.

#3 select the other patch make sure you see were the 2 patches would join up length wise!

#4 now that you see both patches selected looking @ the length wise part move to the end of both patches...

#5 hit V to bring up the vertex editor... goto the end of both
patches look for 2 small squares in a colour of pink.

#6 followed by all other small pink squares highlight the first 2 small pink squares @ the end, even if they dont match up...
just highlight those 2 an hit ctrl-k. this will take the 2 squares an patch them up into one part.

#7 do this with all the pink squares along the to lines you are working with Note: evenif one patch is lets say 20 feet high an other is 4 feet under if that makes sense it does anyways...
Note: only highlight 2 pink squares @ A time an hit ctrl-k 1 @ a time till you reach the end of both patches!!

hopefully that was the probelm solver lol or I just typed all that for nothing. I put it all in steps like this to make sure ppl understand I know ? it's like to get help an ppl leave out stuff then ur stuck coming back here for help over an over I know been there done that!!!
Not that ppl care but I think other ppl should go into detail when helping others out in mapping !!

I always put my alpha texures on another Layer. That way I can select just the alpha mesh (without guessing) or just the base mesh by turning on/off the two different layers.

In addition, I find that I run into issues if I touch either piece of alpha-blended mesh. Which is why all of my alpha blends (base and alpha) meshes are on their own pair of layers (AlphaBase and AlphaBlend). That keeps me from touching either by accident.

Two patches above eachother, when the ottom patch is selected, you can see it through the upper patch.

Problem is when painting height, you can't see whether the bottom patch is "melting" into the upper one or not...

Patch one: X (upper)
Patch two: Y (lower)
In the camera view you will see (or at least you think) Y is above X.
In the tudy(?) window you will see it's the other way, X is ABOVE Y.

I think it's something to do with a shortcut in Gradiant, cause I didn't change any settings yesterday. ( Month after my first post about this I uninstalled Radiant, Last week I reinstalled, and yesterday evening I noticed I was back where I started...)

Thx for the posts already guys, Mr-Snipper, thx for your nice short tutorial, although all your work was for nothing :'(

like I said earlier the upper patch is textured with an alpha texture and the other with a solid texture so this is... "normal"
