Hi all,

Recently I've been curious about the difference in sound quality between MW2 and CoD4. Both games share many of the same .wav files for gun sounds, but some of the soundeffects used in CoD4 have a different ring to them when played in MW2. Is this due to the game engine, or some other property that can be found in the soundaliases file? For example, the silenced MP5 in CoD4 and the UMP .45 from MW2 use the exact same sound effect, but they sound a bit different when played side by side. It seems as if MW2 runs the .wav through some sort of compression, while any sound effect you play in CoD4 sounds exactly as it does when you open it in Audacity. Why is that?

Thanks.

I am pretty sure they made no changes to the audio engine from CoD2 to MW3...its just the soundalias file changes...they have claimed many times big engine changes were made but its still a Quake3 engine with all its pros and cons...

I agree. What property in the sound aliases could this be? I've been changing a few things within the csv, but nothing I've done so far has recreated the effect.
