Hello! I am a clan founder of a 3 year old cod4 clan (sobclan.net) with over 40 members, I have set up dozens of mods and low gravity servers in the past and am now taking on map making. I have purchased a lightly used Asus G74SX laptop to do all my map building on, here are the specs:

500GB HDD
16GB Ram
Intel Core i7 2670QM @ 2.20GHz
17.3" Screen
CD/DVD-RW/ Blu Ray Player
Windows 7 Home Premium

I have read about 60 pages deep in this forum, I have seen mentioned something about with vista and possibly windows 7 you have to create a second bat file:

Basically, I am here to introduce myself and just ask, given the platform I will be using to create maps, is there anything you can tell me to make sure my cod4 map tools are going to work as good as possible for the old software that it is. I have borrowed a laptop with windows 7 until my new to me laptop arrives this coming tuesday in the mail, I have installed cod4 and the mod tools and it seems to work fine with no modification BUT I have not done much with it yet and have not compiled a map yet. ok can not build fast file, has errors could not open and failed loading for my map. It is a super basic map. I tried the fix from tomv8 in the thread I posted above, then also tried skytrams, still getting same error

SOLVED so I had to run as administrator then make a new map, I am looking at three different tutorials and finally have made a simple map and opened it in cod4. I do however have one problem, when I go in game there is a sphere of light around me and my gun is the wrong size so I can hardly see anything, it is as if my face is inside the gun, I have seen it before when I have downloaded certain mods and never figured out how to fix it so we never used those maps. Can anyone please help? I am sooo close to being able to make my own maps.

You have to build zone files. Just google it, there is a fair ammount of tuts.

Thank you antonio, that worked, now to figure out how to make weapons not look like a rainbow and I will be good.

They are pretty, huh? In radiant, from the tools texture menu, the is a purple texture called light_grid or light_volume. Cover the playable area with it.

I will try that thanks you again, the rainbow hurts my eyes lol, I am trying to add a model into my map following this guide but it just crashes radiant, any ideas?

Antonio, I sure hope you stick around, I appreciate all your help, thank you for the replies. My new laptop comes tomorrow, I cant wait to setup everything again now that I know it all works. I have done everything but the patch to 1.1, I will do that tomorrow, if that fixes the models I am so excited. I have used 3d drawing tools before so maps are pretty easy as long as I know how the interface works which I am getting better at. Thanks for the help though I promise to help others in return.

after adding the patched files I am able to add buildings and cars etc. and can run my map on the computer I made it on but when I upload it to the server and try and load it well it crashes the server, it says in console that I have exceeded 128 weapons or something like that...any idea how to get it to work?
