What would you all like to see happen here at ModsOnline? Give Suggestions as to what you would like to see happen. Got other games that are popular with modding? Post it here. Got general ideas as to help bring this site back to its glory days? Post it here. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Lets all work together as a community to help rebuild the user-base that this great website once had.

We need to teach new generation CoD players about the joys of modding. There is way more to a game than the stock experience.
Maybe a new paint job or update the banner info? PAX 2013 was a while ago... Also that indie dev of the month is more like indie dev of the generation at this point...>

I am in the midst of getting together some new news articles. What kind of stuff would you all like to see as far as news goes? PC gaming news or all around gaming news? Like consoles and Tech news in general. As far as a new paint job that's not my department per say but i'm sure if some ideas are thrown around the other admins would surely talk about it. Also I do agree with you. If we can teach people about modding the game the correct ways, instead of all the players who game on the xbox and even the newer pc cods, who make "Mod Menus" that simply exploit the game to give players special dvars or even to modify their rank, these are simply cheats not mods.

I think having news covering all games, not just PC would be cool. Might lure some console peasants :D

I think in order for websites to remain active they must move with the times. Modsonline was mainly driven by call of duty, yes there are other games, but mainly call of duty gave the website popularity. However, call of duty modding is long since died off (thank you dlc and money hungry publishers) so, there are small percentage of people who still mod the game, which is fine and im glad to see that, but to put a number on it should we say ~90% of the modding community has moved on/retired?

So we have a problem, a website whos main (again i stress that its not the only purpose of this site) goal is call of duty modding is down xx% of the community.

Therefore in order to remain acitve a new business plan must be in place. If we do a little thinking im sure some good ideas will arise.

1) Mod database
Steam workshop is a huge resource for mods now, this is however limited to steam games, but, although i don't know the numbers, i assume steam holds a very large percentage of gamers. A few games also have there 'in game' mods list now. So therefore focusing on supplying mod downloads is out, in my opinion.

2) Tutorial database
Modsonline can still focus on providing tutorials and sources on how to mod games, but this will rely on community and staff updates on regular basis, to stay competitive new resources and tutorials will need to uploaded daily. Importantly, this will need to span over all games. The cons of this is in order for a large resource database, you need the community, its a catch 22 situation

3) Reviews and news
Again a popular topic, but a lot of competition, many websites offer reviews and upcoming game news, and again this would need to updated regular, several times a day, this is where it becomes tricky. What is the point of providing the same content you can find over hundreds of other websites? Why would people picks modsonline over a website they may have used for years?

So with the negativity out the way, we need a unique reason for visitors, i like 'developer of the month' but this works if its updated, well, monthly. So this is a nice direction.

Post any ideas you have and lets come up with a new direction for modsonline

If anyone has questions about game development... what I think is the new modding... I'm here.
I may have moved on from modding, but I didn't move very far. ;)

That could work, but as Mystic said "Modsonline was mainly driven by call of duty, yes there are other games, but mainly call of duty gave the website popularity". But since the decline in the modding community for cod on pc, I don't think it would be a bad idea to try and bring in a community of other modders from different games. And like foyleman said since there are alot of game engines and a vast variety of resources for developing games we could branch out and find some people interested in that aswell. The site is called ModsOnline, so why limit ourselves to modding only a few series of games? There are GTA modders out there in huge numbers and if we can get in on the GTA series for modding we could possibly get more traffic and activity. As far as the news goes yes there are tons of websites out there that could provide the same news that we would, but then again the news isn't the main purpose here, its for the community of modders/ mappers to learn and teach each other. The news would just be kind of a bonus I guess. With all that being said they are just ideas right now, I would love to help bring ModsOnline back to its glory days even if not just for the COD series.

ModsOnline might need to redo the website to reach the below goals. So old site might become a subdomain at ModsOnline.

1) Mod Profiles. Videos, images, credits list, download page ect.

2) Social Media integration. Link your youtube videos to mod profile ect.

3) Be open to many mods. All quake based (including source engine and Call of Duty games), Unreal Engine, Frostbite and Crytek Engine games. Note: not all Frostbite, and Call of Duty games have mod tools, so those will not need a mod section.

4) Separate Area for each game series. Call of Duty section with forum, mod profiles, news ect.

5) Website for Indie Development. Get a website for independent game development.

6) Tutorial Databases. Like said before this is a great idea.
