I'm just getting started with mapping in Cod4 and so far my experience has been good, however I've run in to a bit of an issue...

I've blocked out my map the way I like it and am ready to start adding assets/models, however the only way I can see a preview of the asset is by clicking on the file I'd like to import via right click>misc>model. This method is pretty tedious and I'd like to know if there is any way I can use the asset viewer in World at War's mod tools.

Has anyone tried to get the asset viewer to work with Cod4's assets? Or is there another way I can preview assets quickly?

hi, there is an other way since CoD4 does not have it's own asset viewer.
use Tom's xModel utils

Thanks for the suggestion. I knew that Cod4 didn't have a version of the Asset Viewer, but I was hoping I could convert the WaW asset viewer to be used with Cod4's assets.

I'll take a look at Tom's xModel utils.

in my opinion Tom's utils are better than normal asset viewer. you can use it as COD4, WAW and BO viewer. also you can extract models in more than one format with it.

Got the Xmodel Util setup, however I'm not seeing any textures on the assets. Any way to fix this?

that happened to me once on CoD4, and i think it is because there were no texture/skin...... images in the raw/images folder. it's getting it from there. one way you can do it is, go to root/main, open iwd files with winrar and extract all images by hand. it's not a lot of work as you might think. simply open iwd file, and images folder in it, then select ALL (CTRL+A) and drag into raw/images. do that on all iwd's that have image folder inside (iw_00 to iw_06 and from localized_english iwd's)

and there is an other solution, much easier. let Tom's xModel util do it for you! :D
in xmodel util click on SETTINGS, then on MISC, select COD 4 and click Move IWDs over.
Have fun! ;)

After reading the first part of your comment, my first thought was, "well there goes my afternoon", but luckily, the utility took care of it quickly.

haha sorry about that, i'm bored atm so just wanted to write more possible ways of doing it. :D
but even if you had to do it by hand, it would not take more than 10 minutes.

It's cool. I got it working. I love how even though the model names are all one "string", I can still search for a keyword and the utility will pull up related models.

Thanks again for the tip, it's made my life a lot easier.
