Hi All.

Is it true that there are no portals anymore in the mp maps.

All the open doors and windows looks authentic but is killing
performance.

First: Where did you hear this?

Second: What do you mean they look authentic? Authentic in comparison to what? The windows/doors in CoD1? You have NO idea how confused I am right now.

Hello "={W}=DEVIL"

I shall try to explain what i mean with "authentic"

Sometimes it did feel if i whas set back in time 60 years ago and have to fight my battle.
So with authentic i mean to express that the maps are far more realistic concerning the feeling you get or better said
the feeling i did get walking through them.
Walking along dead cows and hearing the sound of flies.
The colors and textures and the grass and the mud.
All the open windows and doors and destruction did taste
like war.
I am not comparing the maps with CoD or judging them on how precize there are historical and or archtitectural values.

About the portals i was walking through the maps and did notice that my frame rates are very low 25 outdoors and 60 indoors.

So i opened my console and did give the command:

r_showportals 1

No luck.

Since i find mp maps of CoD 2 very lagging i came up with two
options:

1. There are no portals anymore.
Is time saving for mappers.
2. That function in the console is inactive.

[smokin]

I think its the first option.

This is because CoD2 is far heavier on your graphics card than CoD1 is. More entities, more effect, more textures..

The showportals didn't work for me either for some strange reason. But setting r_showtris to 2 showed there were definately portals in the maps. Also, in the MP levels, the texture "portal" and "portal_nodraw" are used.

Hi.

The_Caretaker you are right about the command "r_showtris to 2" and about the textures "portal" and "portal_nodraw" .

It shows that there are portals.

Thanks a bunch.

Perhaps the game self-portals, in a manner that "well this is in the way, so I won't render what's on the other side." Chances are there are still structural/detail brushes, but the structural cover up what's behind them.
