I was looking for a way to open playerbody_german_wehrmacht and changing what skins the model uses. (I'm not just replacing the skins) Simple enough I thought, but 2 hours later it seems to me that it would need to be an ".xmodel_export" file for me to be able to even look at it in a model editor. Is anyone knowledgeable about how I'd edit the file somehow or make it into an xmodel_export file?

The model files in call of duty have no file extension, what file are they really then?

explainer:
I'd love to be able to add c_ge_bod_tropical to multiplayer and seeing as the model is identical to playerbody_german_wehrmacht, it should be feasible to create a duplicate of playerbody_german_wehrmacht that loads the tropical skins instead.
Same thing with c_rs_bod_engineer and playerbody_russian_veteran

If I get you correctly, you are trying to replace the model "playerbody_german_wehrmacht" with something else. If it is the case, contact me on steam (ebusiangamers), I will show you how to do it.

i'm not trying to replace anything, I want to create a duplicate of playerbody_german_wehrmacht, then edit the duplicate so it uses other skins. To do this though I need to be able to open the wehrmacht file in a software.

I thought I saw salvation from a most unlikely savior - Notepad - which can make you able to edit the skins. BUT then I load the map and it says
"xmodel/playerbody_german_wehrmacht out of date, verison 8602 expecting 14"
so basically I need to have an older computer?

No, you need to use a hex editor. Notepad will mess up the file when you save since it's meant for editing text, not binary data.

Some free hex editors:
