I know someone said only to post here about sp mapping and mods, but I don't know where else to post. When I play single player on COD2 it mostly works great, but when I get in a big fire fight with lots of smoke and lots of guys, the game slows down pretty good. It feels like lag. It is playable but I want to try and fix it. My computer is an HP pavillion notebook with a 17" widescreen display, resolution of 1440x900. I have an Nvidia Geforce FX Go 52000 graphics card, 512 mb of RAM, and 3.00 ghz pentium 4. And Im runnin XP home. The comp is about 2 or 3 years old, and so is the graphics card driver, so I thought that might be my problem. I can't seem to find an updated driver though. Also if I try and put the game in 1440 res, the game shuts down and won't run unless in safe mode. The max res I can get is 1280x800. I also can't run it on directX9, it will only work on directX7. I think that my computer should be able to play COD2 seamlessly, because it meets the recommended system requirements. Can anyone help?

I havn't actually been able to pin point this prob as I also get this. Im guessing it could be anything from not enough RAM to my grpahics card not being able to handle it, although 'gmax_designer' has ruled that out as we have the same type card and it works fine for him.

Are you running Service Pack 1 by any chance?

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes I am running sp 1, because when I tried to upgrade to sp 2 it screwed my computer, and I had to do a full system wipe. All the other games that I have played on this comp, including COD 1, worked great, so maybe its just that this game take alot of computer to run well.

I have a hunch that alot of my games problems are caused by SP1. I think I will update and see but then that will mess up BF2, or atleast I expect it will.

If there is a lot of smoke n stuff when it "lags", turn off "soften smoke edges". Thats all I can say since I don't know the engine very well yet.

Well all I know about it is that it should be great to work with when the editor is released.

I have soften smoke edges turned off and still get the lag. I'm probably gonna call Activision on Monday, so I'll post here with what they say.

Hey guys. I talked to Activition yesterday, and they said that since I have a laptop the video card in it is watered down, so what I get is the best I can get. :( Oh well, I can still play it. They did tell me a website that has some slightly imporved drivers for laptops (all computers too) so I got the driver, but it didn't help too much. The website is Here. Hope that helps somebody.

Are you running the game on Dx9 or Dx7? THat makes ALOT of difference (on Dx9 I get 30-40 FPS, on Dx7 well over 80..)

Might help turning the res down too. I used to run Cod1 and UO on 1178xwhatever and used to get upto 200fps. But i tried that on CoD2 was like 15fps so i knocked down the res to 1024x768 now i get about 80-100fps and about 30-50fps when the whole screen is full of smoke:)
