Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knows how to put fog into a map. I've searched everywhere, but none of the forums seem to have it.

I have made a map with towers and what I am trying to do is, have the towers appear to float on clouds, or fog.

I thought that it would be a simple thing to do, but now I am finishing the map, I can't find out how to do it.

I have unchecked the setfog thing in my csg file, and have tried adding a fog brush, but this didn't work.

SetExpFog(startDist, halfwayDist, red, green, blue, transition time )

red, green and blue has to be divided by 256

But I don't understand. This is what I have, it is only the backlot setting, but I don't know what they mean, or what to do with them...

setExpFog(500, 2200, 0.81, 0.75, 0.63, 0);

setExpFog(0.005, 0.05, 1, 1, 1, 0.7); /black
setExpFog(0.005, 0.05, 1, 51/255, 102/255, 0.7); //red
setExpFog(0.005, 0.05, 51/255, 102/255, 1, 0.7); //blue
setExpFog(0.005, 0.05, 51/255, 1, 102/255, 0.7); //green

I was wrong, you need to dived them by 255

The fog setting functions apply fog to the whole map, if you want localized fog just around the bottom of the towers you will need to play a fog FX around those areas.

Ni3is, I know you told me, but I didn't understand where the numbers came from, or what they mean. But, thanks for the link, I get it now.

Kill3r, that is exactly what I want to do, but I don't know how. I put a fog brush around the base but I don't know what I have to do to make it work. I'm guessing that there is some sort of script involved.

Have a look at some FX tutorials like this http://modsonline.com/Tutorials-read-448.html

The fog brush is from the Quake3 days to create localized fog, I don't think it does anything in CoD.

Now you have said it, I think I remember reading that fog doesn't work in cod. Maybe that is why there are no posts about fog anywhere. I wonder if smoke woukd have the same effect.

I had another idea for this map...instead of fog, I thought I could surround it with water. This has now thrown up another problem.

When I stand at the top of the map, I can see a square sea.

I have tried putting in a ground box with water selected but this just gives an upright sea area. Ok if the map was Moses parting the red sea, but not much good here.

Does anyone know how I can give the impression of the seas going into the distance.

Maybe use a good skybox that has a sea already in the background. Like the skybox from mp_wetwork
