For some time we have been redesigning maps for our community servers. By that I mean we can move the spawns and flag locations so that they play better.

Now I have some great ideas brewing in my head and I'm looking for some input and possibly help.

First and foremost I'd like to determin if its possible to move / remove objects within the .3dbps files. I know that for example a ladder may appear in the bsp file as:

"model" "xmodel/prop_ladder_wood_14_ft_static"

Its very easy to reposition the ladder using the xyz coordinates but here is the catch. The ladder brush doesnt move with the object so the ability to climb the ladder is right where it was before.

Is it possible to move the lader brush as well?

An example that would seem to suggest its possible is the map mp_chelm by oraco. By using scripts he wrote he moves several objects in the map each time it loads to create more random game play. A series of crates block cretain pathways and his scripts randomly decide to open or block those paths by leaving the crate in place or hiding them below the map.

Any input on this or help with the bsp file structure would be appreciated.

I can't stress enough that if you try edits like this a lot of care needs to be taken. Any public access to altered maps would need to include a complete renaming of the map so we don't end up with corrupt and conflicting maps floating around the servers.

I have a large project in mind if some of this is possible. If so I'd hope to bring in some helpers and pump some fresh energy and excitement back in to this old but amazing game.
