I've been working with the mod tools for almost two years now. I've gradually been gaining more knowledge about scripting and making maps.

However, I'm still pretty clueless with scripting in general. I see everyone creating these really complex and well-scripted maps.

I've hunted around for tutorials, but they're pretty basic. I've also dug around in the code for things, but most of it I have no idea how to use.

I'd like to know: how did you learn to script properly? Any general pointers on how to learn, or resources available?

What do you mean? Do you want to learn MP scripting or SP, though they kinda tie together.....

A good place to start learning scripting is:

http://wiki.modsrepository.com/index.php/Call_of_Duty_4:_CoD_Script_Handbook

http://wiki.modsrepository.com/index.php/Call_of_Duty_4:_Scripting_Reference

Using these sites plus the game scripts wiill help you out.
Plus asking questions here at Modsonline will get you help.

What may look complex on the outside may very well be quite simple to create in a script. I always use a lot of scripting in my maps because it makes them different aside from what it looks like. I enjoy getting the player involved in the environment as well.

I can't say I know a lot of scripting, because what I do know, you can do so much with and all of it is basic stuff. I first learned to move One brush, "somewhere". Then I wanted to move two of them together. Then I wanted sound with it, and then after I started making different things move with timed events, I sorta tied one script with another, mixing and matching parts because the pieces did certain things and were sort of, universal.

This is how I suggest you start. Script one thing to move. Then go from there. I don't know that much, but if you do have any questions, and if I can answer them I would love to help out. My mail box is always open. I check it nearly everyday.
