I got a copy of CoD2 today and went digging through the image files....

now with CoDUO i was able to unzip the ,pk3 files and open the images in photoshop no problem ( after I got the .dds plugin ) from there it was a simple matter of editing the image file and saving it out as a .dds via the photoshop plugin then zipping the images into a .pk3 bundle using win rar...standerd and simple work flow for mapping skins.

But now I see that the images are done a bit differently.

the character textures appear to be zipped under a file extention of .iwd and the image files are ....listed like this

~window_metalframe02_normal-gggr.iwi

now I'm trying to find a way to either find a way to get these image files into photoshop to work with them or I need to get some one to show me a program that will open them and edit them.

thanks for your time guys...I'm sorry for the noob question.

We all are...

.iwi seems to be Infinity Wards own ".dds" type plugin. Until IW releases a plugin, or someone else makes one, I don't think we can open it. .iwi is an image format supported by an image program.. but the plugin doesn't work for the CoD2 .iwi files, so they are not in that format.

However.. I'm pretty sure CoD2 will handle .jpg files for your custom skins as wel.
