I am trying to design a CoD4 map with SketchUp because, although other programs like Autodesk Maya might be better for this type of task, SketchUp is the only 3D modelling program that I'm experienced with.

I know that in Maya 7.0, 8.0, and 8.5, there's a way to get the models to work with the Compile Tools' Asset Manager (here). With a plug-in I could export my SketchUp model to an OBJ and import it to Maya and then follow that tutorial. But since these versions are old I can't find a copy anywhere. If anyone has a copy, could they post it here? Thanks.

I have also tried this OBJ to .XMODEL_EXPORT converter (here), and Blender with CoD plug-in and they successfully converted my OBJ. But when I try to import them into Radiant with Asset Manager, it gives me an error. I followed these instructions:
Quote:
Open up Cod4\bin\asset_manager.exe. You will see several buttons in the top left corner, along with a list. Scroll down to 'xmodel', and click 'New Entry'. You now need to enter the name of the model that you will use to access it ingame, and in Radiant. It can't have any spaces, and try not to make it too generic, pick something which will definitely be unique, e.g. db_laser_cannon. You will see a list of options for your model appear on the right hand side now, select 'animated' from the first drop-down menu. In the 'filename' field, click the browse (three dots) button to the right. Use this to locate and open your xmodel_export file that you made before.
Save your Asset Manager file in Cod4\model_export. Anywhere else and it won't convert, but it won't have any errors.
Click on your entry in xmodel. Go to PC Convert>Current Asset Only, and if it works, you should see 'Conversion done, hit key to continue.

I attached the OBJ to .XMODEL_EXPORT converter and the Blender plug-in. Any ideas?

You also need to conver the images that are associated with the model to COD4.

Instead of going to "xmodel" go to "material" in the list.

Here is the tutorial:

OK, I'll try it. Thanks.

you can create models for call of duty using 3d apps like Sketchup, Blender etc.

but you rely on CoD Radiant for mapping, as models won't have any collision to the player, he will just walk / fall through.

You may model terrain in an external app, convert it to xmodel and place it in a radiant .map, but you should use the model as guideline only and re-create the terrain with proper terrain patches.
