I am sitting in work, waiting for the functional test team to complete their work so I can continue with mine, I am therefore bored with not much to do. I decide to start looking at my favorite website www.modsonline.com, where I can always have a good gander at some of the recent topics and sometimes, even add my own opinion, or help to the matter.

I begin looking through some topics and find two I like. I begin reading through one of them and get really into the converstation and debate going on, not quite deciding who's side I am on.

I quickly run to the starbucks on campus and grab a iced coffee with whipped cream and caramel and return to continue this brilliant debate.

As I change too the final page I come across your ban-hammer post, 'SOZ GUYZ TOPIC TO BRUTAL FOR FORUM, GOTTA CLOSE'.

Please, let these topics continue they are so brilliant. If you continue to close these topics I will have no choice but to contact foyleman... and you know what will happen then.

Regards,

Matthew

tl;dr: flick sake welshy...

PS: rikchet has been indie developer of the month for like 3 months now, sort it out lads.. sort it out.

Matty,

Thank you for stating your concern in a polite manner.

Unfortunately, I have to stick with Welshy's decision to lock the topic. While the topic was not heated to the point of a flame war, it was going back and forth without resolve.

Opinions were made and stands were taken.

As you know, MODSonline had decided a long time ago to disallow that which might become hostile. When this site was started, it was not just to help others with modding and development, it was because there were very few if any websites out there that weren't full of hostile remarks. We wanted a site that was friendly and respectful and I believe that is why it still exists.

I respect the opinions that were made regardless of my agreement to them. However a back and forth of disagreement has always lead to hostile remarks in the past. I believe Welshy saw this as such an outcome and locked the topic accordingly. Nothing was deleted in an attempt to censor.

Thanks Matty for your interest and courteous request.

As for the Indie of the Month... we ran into some issues and haven't been able to forward this new section of the site. We hope to rekindle it very soon and move forward. [thumbs_up]

Dear Matty,

Thank you for your concern, we appreciate any and all opinions here at MODSonline. Allow me to explain why I closed that particular topic.

I sit back into my desk chair, stretching my arms out above my head. The seat makes a weird creaking noise I as do this, it is pretty old, and I should get a new one soon. I lean forward and continue the Skype call conversation.

Its post MODSonair Show, and the banter, as always, is still flying between me, foyleman and Stryder. After some expertly well-crafted jibs at Stryder's lack of hair and foyleman's Thursday night drinking escapades, we decide to reconvene in an hour or so for some gaming. Stryder and I discuss a topic that we will need to keep an eye on. I stand up and remove my headset. It's pretty gloomy outside and the weather reminds me of my hometown.

Continuing through the doorway I enter my apartment’s living room, while chatting to my two roommates. They agree the weather is very "Wales" like. I grab my keys from the side cabinet or "The cube" as I've been calling it, and head outside into the hallway. I turn the corner and press the call button for the lift. While waiting I take to reading the safety notice that has been framed on the wall outside the lift doors. There is information on what to do in case of an earthquake, as I'm from the United Kingdom this is a little strange to me. I began deliberating on what I would actually do if there was an earthquake.

My attention is then redirected as I hear the soft "ding" of the lifts arrival. I step inside and hit the "L" button. The ride down only takes a few seconds and I exit and step into the lobby. I cross the shining sea of floor tiles to the exit doors and tap the "Exit" button on the wall.

I walk down the street and pass several people on the way. Despite being gloomy out it seems that the people of Vancouver still cycle, Rollerblade or skateboard about. I think to myself how awesome that is as I past a coffee shop. I don't really like coffee but it does look like a nice place to get some. There's an attractive girl sitting outside reading a book, if only I liked coffee. As I deliberate whether or not I could pretend to like coffee I arrive at the corner store.

As I step inside I fire a casual wave to the shopkeeper, I don't know his name but we've become acquainted over the last few months. I'm probably in there too often but it's always nice to make friends. I grab a Dr Pepper, some crisps and a loaf of bread, and make my way to the counter. I exchange pleasantries with the shopkeeper. He tells me it's been busy, I make a comment about the weather, pay and leave.

As I arrive at my apartment building I dig out my keys and use the key-fob to unlock the door. I enter the lift once again and return to my apartment. I sit back down in my desk chair. It's game time, so I fire up borderlands. I know what you are thinking, Why are we playing borderlands? Well we've been struggling to find something to play recently and seeing that the second one is coming out soon, I thought it would be a nice change of pace.

I put my headset back on and join the Skype call with foyleman and Stryder. We continue to play for a good few hours, until it's time for bed, for them anyway...stupid time zones...

I then load up my favorite website...Pornhub; once I'm done with that I open MODSonline...

I read through a particular, topic, while noting that it has not turned "BRUTAL' it is heading that way and I decide to act before it turns ugly. I lock the topic to prevent the inevitable flame war. The participating members had had their say and the topic was in danger of becoming an argument. I open up Thunderbird and fire off a few emails, job applications, respond to friends back home. I send one to yet another indie developer, while remembering how difficult it has been to get them to even talk to us in the first place. I remember how nice it was of the Rikochet (Now named Recoil) team to allow us to interview them.

I notice the time and shut off my laptop. Time for me to get some sleep, I have to go to work in the morning...

The topic was locked because it was in danger of heading in an unfriendly direction. The topic in question has been discussed at length in other forums threads. The participating members of that thread had expressed their views on the matter and it was beginning to circle.

P.S If you'd like me to pass on a message to foyleman, I'd be happy to, I have him here on Skype, so it'll get there straight away.

Welshy, foyleman and myself are in almost constant conversation about one thing or another - this includes the website, forum topics and our members and listeners. I will also refer you to the site rules which outline what is and is not allowed on our forums - and briefly explains the purposes of moderators & administrators, as well as the conduct expected from our members.
