G'day all,

For some light hearted entertainment of you forumites, I have been working on a lot of silly things lately, and a couple of maps as well.
I am in the middle of doing a medievil type map with a castle as the central play area. One of the main attractions is a Trebuchet that launches all sorts of stuff at the castle that explodes at random locations and has a fairly hefty radius damage.
Here is a pic of one such launch... (anyone remember Monty Pythons Flying Circus?? ) :-)

For the animal rights activists out there, these are only models, no live animals were harmed in the making of this working seige engine!

roflao, grassy m8 there's a "want" in you man!!!!! dont know what it is tho!![lol][lol][lol]

The scene was in "Search for the Holy Grail" with the French in the castle and the wooden horse scene. In the end even the horse got launched back over the wall >....you bl***y mad Ausie you. That's a one you could do, a flying wooden horse.. roflao again...

Azz and Whiskers made a fun jeep map a while ago and they had me put a formation of flying cows in it.. lol

What you need to do now is beetle away over to laurameagens webby and get his "mooing" cows sound thing..[jumping][jumping] It could go "mooooooooo" as it gets launched [lol]

You should have the cow rotate a bit too, to make it even better looking. :p

I haven't added the mooing cows to the site yet. But I would be more than happy to donate the sound file to this.... *thinking*...... Not really sure what to call it![lol]
I wonder .... is there a way to make it splatter when it hits? And leave a big splat mark on the side of the castle? It's kind of sick but would be sweeeet!

Very possible. Create a script_brushmodel and texture it on one side with the "splat" texture... (Make it yourself or use the blastmark or something). Now with the function hide(); you can remove the brush and make it reappear again with another function when the cow hits that place.

LOL [rocking] Thanks people, all good stuff.

Caretaker, the models do rotate, that was just a fluke to screen capture it in that position.
I need to tweek the script a little more to add better randomness at the hit zone. It also uses gravity on the objects, but timing is very hard to get right.. I need a way of detecting the missile position.......
Ahhh, light goes on.. [idea] a simple large trigger across the face of the castle will do it... hmmm might just work.

Yes please on the sounds Laurameagan, that would be great to add. [thumbs_up] not too sure about the splatter, you would need a lot of them in place on the castle as the script is random the missiles can hit anywhere.

I have a few more pitfalls in the works for the map, gameplay will be strange as players will be too scared to move around the map for fear of finding another trap :)

The idea behind doing this map was to include just about all things that can be done in the game bar AI, it will have lots of scripts, script_models, texture tricks, pretty much all the stuff I have done over the past year will be in it. This will give other mappers a handy reference map to look at it's contents so they can add something similar into their own maps.

Monty python is verry funny and i have both movies, nice to see your inspiration comes from somethink so funny.
