So I was telling some friends down the hall from me about a project that I did back in high school where I remodeled my library using the blue prints. It was for COD, I think you can still find some of the posts that I made on this forum asking about how to use radiant, etc. It came out pretty good and about 5-6 friends of mine had a blast duking it out in our library.

My new friends suggested remaking the dorm and I did a little research and found that CS:Source would be the best medium in which to design for. Alot of the kids around here play it, and I could also turn it into a single player half life 2 map with zombies/etc if I wanted.. (so it would be worth the effort)

In trying to figure out hammer I've made a pretty good version of my dorm room. I've been able to find some desks/computers/microwaves/etc to use, but I'm finding that everything is just "close" to what we have and it doesn't look as good as I could make it. The models are a little off, the textures for our white painted concrete walls (not cinder blocks) and wood floors are a bit off, and the dimensions are a bit off.

In searching for models I've had to go from folder to folder, loading each thing in some cases to see if its what I'm looking for. Is there any way to search for a model? Like the mattress that I can't seem to find anywhere.

For textures, I think this might just require a little more searching through my wad but is it possible at all to take a picture of the textures in my room/dorm and edit them and import them? Anyone ever heard of someone doing that?

And for the dimensions, I remember in radiant so many units where so many feet. Does anyone have a pretty much exact conversion for ingame->real life units? Someone gave me a number in radiant and it screwed up the size a bit of the library that I made( using the blue prints).

I'm thinking of maybe creating the models that I want, we have 4 desks that are all the same, 2 beds that are the same that I already made with brushses and wood texture, a fridge that every single one of the rooms has, etc.. Is there a program that you can create models with for Hl2/CSS? It would be cool to even make them breakable, but thats probablypushing it.

Give me a few hours and I'll have a picture of my room up and the version that I made in hammer.

Thanks in advance for any help

it is very well possible to make your own textures and put them in hammer so you can use them in your maps. i have done it when i mapped with sof2, but haven't done it with hl2, still, it's possible. search for tuts about making custom textures. about the right sizes, there is some where a tut about how big everything has to be to let it look real. i have looked but can't find that tut just now. there are textures in hl2 that are colored orange and have sizes on them. otherwise just make a little testmap to see how the sizes are of things. about that mattress, you can find it here;
models/props_c17/FurnitureMattress001a.mdl

be sure to use a prop_rag doll for it, otherwise it will not show!!

success,
