Alrighty, sorry to make my first post here a question but I really need some help. Over the last couple of days I have been browsing this site and it is awesome, so I expect to stick around a bit.

Anyway, my problem is this…recently I decided to get back into mapping (I used to make maps for MOHAA) and went for CoD4 since me and my brother love some LAN matches on there. Plus, it uses Radiant and I already had experience from my MOHAA days with that program.

I had a few problems early on but got through them (thanks mostly to old posts on this site) and everything works perfectly. I have big plans for lots of maps I want to make. I've compiled a bunch of test runs and gotten the missing assets working, etc, etc. Only thing I haven't really tried yet is packing it all into .ff and .iwd files, but I can still test my maps atm.

Only problem? I can't compile reflections. When I go to Compile Tools > Compile Reflections (after compiling the bsp and making sure everything is working blah blah, it's all fine) it opens CoD4 as it should (I've seen videos of this working) and then goes black, waits a second, then "mptool.exe has encountered a problem" (typical Windows error, you know)

Using Windows 7 32-bit. Everything else is working perfectly fine. The rest of my specs are way more than the poor CoD4 engine can even imagine, etc. Everything is fine except for this.

It's not just my maps, I've tried compiling reflections for the test/example/sample maps that came with the CoDTools. Same thing. I have looked absolutely everywhere and nothing has worked.
I've made sure I have worldspawn and its properties, light grids, reflection probes, lights, spawns, a global_intermission, everything.
But as I said, it isn't just my map. Any .map I try to compile reflections for, using any settings in the compiler, same exact thing.
I've also tried this on a backup Win XP SP2 computer. Same. Thing.

What's going on?
I really need some help and you guys are my only hope. Without reflections my game is all red and you just can't make a complete map without that crucial part. :(


TL;DR

When I press "Compile Reflections" in CoD Compile Tools, on ANY map (even example maps) and of course my maps that are completely ready to be compiled for reflections (everything is set up) it opens CoD4, goes black, then "mptool.exe has encountered a problem blah blah" and reflections are obviously not done.

Well, not a "fix" but I did get to compile reflections. Turns out that if the map is being considered a MP map, it freezes when you compile reflections. But if I don't put mp_ before the map name, it thinks it's an SP map, and it compiles them fine. Then all I have to do is change the csv file to make it an mp map and then build the fast file, and it works.

Still would like to find a complete fix, but this will do. :)

The problem may be in mptool.exe. Make sure the mptool.exe is running in administrator mode.
