so when a map is made the default characters are usmc and opfor in desert-wear, i went to my .gsc file and now i have this

game["allies"] = "sas";
game["axis"] = "russian";
game["attackers"] = "axis";
game["defenders"] = "allies";
game["allies_soldiertype"] = "woodland";
game["axis_soldiertype"] = "woodland";

my map is a woodland map so these are the settings that i would like, but....the characters are still opfor and usmc in desert-wear, but when i first enter the game the symbol that appears is sas and the dudes voice is british....what am i doing wrong?

In the zone file you need to load the proper models. Normally for Desert models you simply need the following:

include,mptypes_desert

The missing assets will try to give you the actual model names, which is not necessary. It tries to give you like a group of 12 or so models. You just need the line above to get all the desert models.

Since you already changed the models you want in your maps .gsc file, just swap out the line in the zone file to the following:

include,mptypes_woodland

Now, the only problem here is, only certain mods support Woodland and Urban models. If you are trying to run your map with Modwarfare or CustomMaps, you'll have to run another mod to see them ingame while testing. I know for sure Awe4 and Extreme4 support Woodland models, so try running your map with one of those mods and it should work just fine.

A small correction about the "custommaps" mod - this was created by IW to fix the "woodlands" character set issue. It DOES show them correctly. It's modwarfare that doesn't, but then all you have to do is replace _teams.gsc in modwarfare with the one in custommaps and that will fix the problem.

Yeah, You're right. I just never use it. I think the reason I never use it is because it doesn't have all the weapons unlocked by default, like the other two mods I suggested. The sniper and shotgun are locked, which defeats the purpose of testing the ghillie suit in your maps environment.

Plus, I think it's good to test your map with a bigger mod. But yeah, you're right, it Does show the Woodland models properly.
