what program does everyone use to read and write the code? there's all these helpful people out there talking about changing the code and i'm so lost....help a newbie please :(

Write script? Use UltraEdit, you can use the wordfile developers added to tools for syntax highlighting, keywords, etc...

Well just search for programs and find one you feel good with. Anyway I am using PSPad.

i use Programmer's Notepad a lot:

I modified a prior version to support gsc files like C++ scripts (ctags code outliner worked) and CoD script highlightling and autocomplete, i might update it if anyone is interested

I use UltraEdit. Great program with great support from its author.

One important feature you might want to look for in whatever program you choose... "search for in files" and "search and replace in files". If you do enough programming, you will eventually want the option to search for something within the 100's of scripts you wrote without having to open them all one by one.

ok so i got n++ and i can read the two files used to edit the map, but i cant edit the fast files....i'm following one of the tutorials to add a minimap and it says i need to add a line to the maps fast file (.csv) and i'm not sure how to do this

and another thing, i went into raw/maps/mp to find the gsc file, and instead of having gsc files, none of the custom maps have a gsc file but instead there's a .grid_auto file and a .d3dbsp file...why isnt there a gsc file?

Next time use edit please ;).

1. You can not edit a .FF file. However you could extract some of the files if required.
2. .D3DBSP is the compiled map that you made in Radiant and .GRID_AUTO is used for the compiling of the map.
3. .GSC files are not automatically generated you have to make them yourself. (The easiest way is to copy one of the existing files and rename everything into your map!)
4. To add the .GSC file (or compass) simply launch the Compile Tools and press '4. Update Zone File'
