"NOW WAIT A GOD DAM MINUTE SOLDIER !"
don' t be thinking you can go AWOL just like that, you've got to stick with it !!

Seriously ..... I was like that when I first started. Infact I'll admit to actually un-installing radiant 2 or 3 times because I could do things as fast as I would have liked.

Then I realised that Rome wasn't built in a day, you have to stick at it and have a lot patience.

As an example, I've been banging my head against a wall all day because I cant figure out S&D. But the satisfaction when you press LAUNCH and the game kicks in is enough reward to keep me going.

The guys on this forum are exceptional and I take my "helmet" off to them.
Including of the top of my head:

Wyatt
M@DCROW
RASTA
STRYDER
Supersword
The Caretaker

the list goes on !

Without them I would have packed it in and gone AWOL months ago... give it time is all I'm saying, don't just pack it in because your stuck !

Anyway, thats just me !

Stick with it. You'll love the end product I promise you ! [thumbs_up]

Paulo

Cricket, just how far did you get to producing your first little map?
How long have you been at it?
How old are you? (thats not meant to be personal)
What nationality are you? (are you having trouble with language?)

Please try to tell us just what problems you are having with gradiant? (I think we got your textures loaded did we not?)

Try again, start really small, a piece of ground, a small building, maybe a model and tree, one death match spawn point and one death match intermission.
Slap a sky box round it, compile it and have a test run. Other stuff will come later. As stated earlier, there's nothing like the first time you get to run around your very own creation. Be it good or crap it doesnt matter at this point in time.

If it's any comfort, the first time I ever opened radiant, I took one look, and closed it...

I totally agree, i think everybody has felt that 'give up' feeling at least once, but stick with it and your soon have something to be proud of. Everybody always gets a strange feeling when they release a 1st map, dont tell me you dont want to experience it [lol]

Cricket,, have you got msn?.... I can make you a little map. (I already have one) I will give you it along with the .gsc's and you can build onto it or simply just load it into gradient and see how its put together...

(not tonight though) got to hit the sack,, busy day tomorrow

Sorry for anyone who has helped my, but I didn't mention in list above, if I listed you all the names would be too long for this forum ! [drink]

PS. CRICKET.... This just goes to show that the help is there. you 've posted a topic and within 30 minutes its had responses from some of the best mappers out there at the moment ! [thumbs_up]

I think they would agree if I said that we would ALL see it as a failure if your packed it in so early without giving us the chance to let you shine and show us what you can do !

I don't [cry][sad]

But seriously. Don't quit. When I started mapping, I drew a brush, textured it with concrete, and was proud of myself. When I realized there was more to it, I quit for nearly a month before I cam back with a vengeance and discovered MO. I started my mapping career here, and look at me now! I have more posts here than I do on the professional forums I browse for my RL job. Once you just hack away at mapping for a while, something just clicks, and from then on, its just learning new techniques and adding to a rapidly growing set of skills. There are mappers here better than me *cough*ricsta*cough*, and I'm not always pleased with my work, but I never give up because once you learn the basics, its just FUN.
