MW3 will not have mod tools.

Activision has changed the business model for both IW and Trey, and it started with MW2 - no dedi's & no tools.

They don't want a game with long shelf life, and they definitely don't want anyone pointing out (by fixing) glaring problems with the game (modding) - let alone improving the online experience by releasing custom content (mapping) as that would cut into their market stranglehold of crappy DLC

So they annually release a regurgitated POS game with "new" skins and a weak storyline, and hope that nobody notices that they haven't really done anything except help themselves to your wallet.

COD is dead on it's feet and it has been for almost 4 years now...

Although I enjoyed BO, I'm really enjoying BF3 more. Technically, they can be classified as different FPS shooters.

I will not be purchasing MW3. Have lost the desire!

tbh, I only get most new games on ps3 for this reason, i enjoy modding and mapping, but i am a bit glad that there isn't mod tools for mw2 or bo or mw3, as when i just got in to cod2 mapping (played cod1 for a long-time, only just got in to mapping as some custom maps were released), then cod4 came out which totally changed how we mod and mapped, and i only just got properly used to terrain blending scripting before mw2 was realeased, still getting to grips with lots now, but if it came out for the others it would just leave lots of projects un-done, as for cod2 and mw1 i have lots of maps that are half done, scripts made but never used and all that. at least on ps3 u cant really mod it unless you hack it, which ruins it. but they ruin'd pc games as soon as they brought out steam / origin which just ruins it.

Thanks, Ukdjaj[thumbs_up]

I wouldn't say it the digital retailer that has killed modding, its the greed of companies and how there major revenue comes from consoles anyway. Why waste time on a 'small' market which will only eat into profit when they could scrap all that, and release there own mods 'dlc' content and make money from it!?

Call of Duty has a policy that they release from 3 to 5 DLC's while releasing patches with fixes after those DLC's they could release Mod Tools as people dont want to make maps like Devs do fans make cased textured maps so it works better for players with a bad PC, so many would still map, mod and buy the DLC.

I don't agree - if that were the case the tools for MW2 would have been released already...as would the tools for BO

sorry - not buying it...[angryalien]

I still believe that we will no longer get tools because it eats into the profits. There may be other minor issues but mappers always seem to get their heads around the technical issues of making maps. Nope, money is the biggest obstacle to getting the tools.....or not getting them.

exactly, i think what they might even start to do in the near future is even have people pay yearly or even monthly for the tools. they do that for XNA developers for xbox360 you have to pay 100 a year just to put your stuff on xbox and all that crap. none of this would happen if no one bought DLCs but... thats what it all has come down to. money money money.

and the only reason why i say pay monthly or yearly is because they see from the PC community they love mod tools so much i dont think they will completely get rid of mod tools for the whole future, they probs see more money if they think about hey lets make them pay monthly/yearly for these tools and give them certin restrictions with it yada yada yada

been along time since i posted i personally have not bought ANYTHING from the call of duty series since there very first bomb shell they can go [duh]

edited on Nov. 8, 2011 12:00 pm by lazygit

another thing i personally think if mapping tools stop all together, for these games and i meen any games
the business will shoot themselves in the foot, all these young kids that could be picking up design skills and later deciding yes this is what i want todo when leaving school

think of it like a trade they are killing there own trade
