Ok, I am a sooper noob at mapping. I watched and read every tutorial I could find. The information is great and helped clear up the whole concept of this art form.

However, I have had a horrible time compiling my map. I wanted to compile it to check it out but i don't get a .bsp file. I know this subject has been dealt with many times in the forums but I have been unable to find a solution to what MY map is (isn't) doing. There are some warnings in my compile log but I have no idea how to find/fix them.

I have tried the pointfile and put my .lin file in the map_source file where my .gmm file is but I get nothing.

Here is my Batch log. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I feel so dumb for not getting this thing to work with all the tutorials and forum info.

Firstly get rid of all those custom maps and mods you have in your Cod/main and CoD/UO folders they dont help one bit. Theres all aslo this "MAX_WINDINGS_PER_CELL" which i belive is too much terrain of too much complex terrain.

I think the stuff near the top of you log is to do with Portaling but i havent ever had to do it yet so... sure i'll have fun when i get to it.

ok, this is what i get when i open radiant, everything seems normal exept for the "could not load default.cfg" ive set up my radiant settings exactly as in the tuts, also when i compile my maps i get the "could not load default.cfg" message a few times but the map still compiles. and i can play on it, but i get no shadows!

As E3|Raraavis said.. the "MAX_WINDINGS_PER_CELL" error usually has something to do with complex terrain. Did you add terrain meshes recently? And maybe done some extreme vertices manipulation? If so.. delete them and redo them simpler.

The "WARNING: portal at (-86 2689 344) entity 0 brush 1740 has the same cell on both
sides, portal ignored" errors are due to leaks in your portals.

The being able to play the map, is because you're playing an old version of your map.

Thanks for your help guys. I got rid of the terrain and it compiled ok. Still can't get the Pointfile to work. After I compiled the map and tried to run it to see how it was. I got an error "stuka x size 0.0" lmao dunno how it got there or WHERE it was since the size is 0.0. SOOOOO, I saved my structures as prefabs and started with a clean slate. Adding them one at a time and compiling until they were all there and the errors were fixed. Sure was the LOOONG way to do it but it worked. Still don't know where the mysterious stuka went.

Anyhow.....thanks for the help. You guys ROCK!!

Warning: entity 0 brush 241: tris with 2+ major axes bad lighting likely

What does it mean and how do I fix it?

It gives you the brushniumber. Go to Msic -> Find brush, type in the number and see what's wrong with it. Most likely it's a strangely cut brush.

I don't think that the idea behind this sticky was for people to post all their compile logs...you guys should be making new threads for your compiling problems - there's no need to post them HERE. Thats not what this thread was for.
