Whats your opinions on Red Orchestra 2? Can't decide if i should buy it seeing as bf3 is just round the corner.. It does look like good fun and modding is said to be supported (unlike BF3) also it's what you may call 'realistic' when compared to other shooters.

It would depend on your taste, like you have mentioned indirectly in the other topics. I do agree RO is definitely realistic. From what I have seen, RO has tanks that you can see on the inside, like BF3 does.

So if you want realism, go with RO. If you want something that have millions of player (exaggeration perhaps) you can go with BF3. Not that I am saying RO won't have that many players.

If you want a historic game, go with RO, modern game, BF3.

Or in doubt, go with both. :D

My concern is the playerbase, they picked a time of year when a whole bunch of games are coming out and although its a new realism fps there isn't much else going for it.

The outdated engine, graphics, AI and animations cast a shadow over the better features.

On the other hand, mods/maps are support so with a large enough playerbase it could flourish into the new big thing seeing as cod is now pretty much dead.

So the question really is will people play the game for more than a few months or will they stick to what they know ie. BF3, MW3...

I don't know what the playerbase is.

I don't mind outdated engines. I favor gameplay over graphics or better tech, ragdolls, etc.

COD is not dead yet...I am still here....

You would need to ask the RO community if they will stick with RO for a while. To me, like all games, everything comes to an end after sometime. If you really want a game that will have many player playing for at least several years, I would go with BF3.

Outdated engine? What? The UE3 engine is not considered "outdated" - it was only released in 2009. There are only 3 new engines for big games anyway - the Frostbite 2.0 engine, the CryEngine 3, and id Tech 5 (RAGE). All the other FPS games are running on younger engines, such as Homefront (UE3), and Brink (id Tech 4).

I know what Sam means. It's not an outdated engine. However the art style that comes from TripWire does appear a bit outdated. The gritty nature of their textures and their highly ambient lighting make the game look less flashy then what you might get out of BF3 or MW3. They did the same thing to Killing Floor.

And Killing Floor wasn't a game with much flair, however the gameplay made it worth playing and I played it for a while. RO2 could have that same quality... gameplay that people enjoy and keep coming back to.

Will BF3 have that quality? The kind of quality that keeps players coming back for more? I'm not sure yet. I do know that I want to give it a chance. BFBC2 didn't quite have that draw, but BF3 could. In the end, it comes down to player preference... and perhaps if there are enough players with that preference to keep the fight going.

I know BF3 won't last long compared to BF2, well that's just the PC hardcore BF fans. I started playing BF2 again and wow, there's like a million servers that weren't there a while back. Everyone is getting ready for BF3 by playing BF2 again but once they played BF3 for while, well, they would all revert back b/c BF3 is not what it used to be. The players left over are BC2 fans and new fans. As for me, I am not a hardcore gamer. I play whenever I want to, though, I will stop playing after a while, like BF2 and other games. Everything gets boring to me after a while.

At least, that's what I think.

As for you, buy the game that you want to play. I have been stuck on this problem for sometime, especially b/c money is an issue. Just pick the one you want to play or better yet, both!

Red Orchestra looks really cool, and if modding is supported I'll buy it for sure :) CoD is kinda dead now.

I pre-ordered it. So I got to play the beta. Can't wait to play the full game. The game reminds me of CoDUO. Plus this is by the same guys that brought us killing floor, who doesn't love that.

One thing to remember is that this game is not Call of Duty. This is a much slower and more realistic game. No perk crap or frankly ridiculous weapons, ammo and scenarios. As someone who plays ARMA II for it's realism this game appeals to me. Although granted it's a lot more casual than ARMA, kinda like arma lite...but WW2.

This is a historically accurate shooter (Well almost) Cover and line of sight is everything in this game, leave yourself exposed, you're dead, stand there not moving, you're dead, Fire from the same spot more than a few times...your're dead. This game makes you work for your kills and getting your first one is incredibly satisfying. The first person cover system is also pretty awesome.

Sure the graphics aren't the greatest ever, however it really does look pretty great on maxed out settings (providing you have the rig to back it up with). The gameplay more than makes up for that.

I was planning to add support on the site for the game when the SDK is released for it. While baring in mind that it's the unreal engine, So there will be a learning curve for quite a few people, Me included.

welshy, the game is out now and do you like it?
I want to buy the game but im not sure about the quality of the game. I heard there are many bugs in the game and it feels like the game isn't actually finished.
And when does the mod tools come out?
