Anonymous really do show there power, seems like they are capable of almost anything and there reasoning actually sounds like they are doing the world a favor. I understand what they are doing is illegal but does that make it morally wrong too?

morally.. legally.. and much more. THEY are the terrorists.
Quote:
ter·ror·ism
[ter-uh-riz-uhm] Show IPA
–noun
1.
the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, especially for political purposes.
2.
the state of fear and submission produced by terrorism or terrorization.
3.
a terroristic method of governing or of resisting a government.

Tell me they don't fit the definition perfectly.

On the one hand I agree with the point that foyle makes. They shouldn't being doing it and I will never condone hacking or the theft of people's information. I don't know if I would go as far as to call them terrorists though, Criminals yes but not terrorists.

On the other hand I can kinda see where they are coming from. They do what they do not for personal gain, it's not as if they are stealing money or property from people, Although I guess you could argue that a persons data is their property.

Governments have way too much control over our lives at the moment and they are (particularly in the US) working to have more. I kinda like the idea that at least someone is causing them to maybe think twice before doing certain things.

To quote Alan Moore

Quote:
People shouldn't be afraid of their government. Governments should be afraid of their people.

Unfortunately the US and probably the UK governments will use anti terror laws as an excuse to start kicking people's doors down (although some doors do need to be kicked down)

Is it legally wrong?...yes....moraly...probably....is it necessary..maybe...

Sorry Welshy. I understand that they think they are doing what is in the long run a necessity. However there is NOTHING right about it.

Let's say I trick you into doing something illegal. Then I turn you in and you go to jail. I could argue that you were going to eventually do something illegal anyway and all I did was hasten the process by exposing you for who you really were.

Hey.. isn't this the lesson taught in the movie Minority Report? [rolleyes]

I'm up for asking companies to prove they are as secure as they say they are. But terrorism is not the answer.

"ignored our warnings, and our generous offer of a cease fire."

Among other things what they said is self-described terrorism. The goal is not personal gain but a demand that the government perform certain actions or damage will be done. In this case the release of what they consider political prisoners, so to speak. They feel the people in question serve a higher social cause and are not bound by the law. Said people probably feel the same. I dont know who their public relations guy is but using the term 'declare war' on a government can fit the legal definition of treason.

The mayor in this case is an idiot. But so what. There are lots of idiot mayors in the world. But their actions take aim against the enforcement of the law not a politician. If caught they should also gladly go to jail for breaking the law. But since they want to remain 'anonymous'... or in other words wear ski masks while they do it... I doubt they would.

It's a matter of time before they are caught, with the FBI and cyber police on there back its inevitable.

@foyleman
I understand you have a strong opinion on the group but i keep thinking 'terrorist' is too strong a word until i done a little research

I didn't realize how many attacks they have actually made, some activities in that list such as 'YouTube porn day' or 'No Cussing Club' show there true colors and and as quoted from the website they are just "doing it for the lulz." It also seems they have the knowledge to do nearly anything so its really down to what there imaginations brings, which could be a dangerous recipe, i feel we could be under estimating just how much of a threat they are.

I just hope the US Government doesn't use this to take unnecessary control over all things internet, like the "OFF' switch they wanted previously.

No US Government Internet Admins please.

imo, this is nothing less than what any government with power does in the shadows of broad daylight. They just get a bad hit bc they target the gov and gov uses the media to say their bad and brainwash the majority of the masses, specially if u believe fox news. The gov isnt clean in what it does as well. both of them deserve to go to jail( the responsible party(ies ) ), just that people like to root for the underdog. something about david taking on goliath and bring him down seems like a good story doesnt it? as for some corporations they deserve it. Im not saying its legal wat they did but hey some corporations do deserve it.
