I've created a small room inside a sky box to try and learn the basics of mapping. I compiled it without a problem, then when I played it I could see my map but I couldn't move. I added a DM Spawn and tried it again but now there's a leak. So I clicked pointfile and the red line is going straight through the center of a wall. How do I get rid of leaks? [confused]

Make sure that your brushes and entity's are not sticking out of the skybox. Maybe you can try making a new skybox.

I fixed the leak, I compiled the map, I loaded it in game. I can see walls and the ceiling but it looks like my camera is stuck in the floor. And no, I don't have a DM Intermission. I'll add one and test it out.

Edit: I added a DM Intermission and I get the same thing. If I hit Esc to join a team I get the main menu. And what is that little blue box with the Z for? I can't move it or delete it or do anything with it.

madcrow reporting in...

Firstly welcome to the forums an the world of mapping.. as for your problem.. go to side view in editor.. and drag your dm intermission and spawn points above the ground.. be sure that it is not in any brushes.. but definately make sure they are above the ground brush.. as for the blue box with the z in the editor this is telling you which way your camera for the 3d window is facing..

Hope helps..

I finally found the problem. Earlier I added a DM Spawn and then I added a DM Intermission, but I was still selecting the Spawn so it replaced the spawn with the intermission. I simply deleted all entities and added a spawn and intermission and it works now.[jumping]

Thanks for all the help! I'm sure I'll have more questions in the future.

If I want to put a window into a wall do I have to make the brush for the windows and then make another brush for the wall around the window or is there any easier way to do this? Same with doors and anything else.

for doors that slide open or w/e, you have to build a room or something behind and infront of the door(s) or u will get leaks.[wink]

You can make a wall and then cut out the window with the clipper tool.

As for having something in front and on the back of your door/window, if you make a skybox around your map it's all solved.
