Hi, I'm doing school project (my school) in CoD4

and I need to edit text in wm_quickmessages to control the elevator, but threre is problem... I edited it in folder raw/ui_mp/wm_quickmessages.menu and I also put it to mods/mymod/ui_mp/wm_quickmessages.menu AND also to iwd file.

WHY CANT I SEE MY CUSTOM WM_QUICKMESSAGES.MENU ?

I updated zone file (menufile,ui_mp/wm_quickmessage.menu) and make new fast file, BUT I can't see any change in game. Wm_quickmessages is still default, without my changes. What do I wrong? Please help, I don't have much experiences with cod4, I did so far mods for cod2. Thanks for any help

edit: and yes I am running it under mod

Hmm. I don't have my stuff with me but I think I remember wm_quickmessage - there was one commented out section that looked like the actual menu but wasn't, the real thing was at the bottom of the file. Take a closer look and see if you can find any /* */ multiline comments.

Also, the menu file only needs to go into the fastfile, never an iwd (they aren't properly compiled in those).

What is your mod? Is it to change the writing on the Quickchat menus? If so, what you are looking for is the Localize file and this will require a mod.ff compile also.

Check this tutorial to mod the Quickmessage stuff:

http://wiki.modsrepository.com/index.php/Call_of_Duty_5:_Menu_Modding_Basics

Its for CODWAW but to be honest its almost exact same as COD4. Good Luck!

I think I found what u mean, but why is that "second menu" commented out? I don't get it. I'll try some combos and see what can I do.

I compile my map, make reflections, update zone file (there I wrote menufile,ui_mp/wm_quickmessage.menu) and click on make fast file. Then I'm playing the map, but with no changes in -> menufile,ui_mp/wm_quickmessage.menu

My mod is no mod actually. If you have seen the video I posted, u can see the elevator (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_V60-m6ZUg%23at=110) and I wanna control this elevator by this qckmessgmenu like I did in CoD2.

That tut u gave me, is not very helpful cause I found it too and did everything what it says.
(except one little thing:

The Functions and Maps folder (the gsc files) placed in
Vista : C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Activision\CoDWaW\mods\menumod\ui_mp\

I don't even have there folder Activision :) )

No... you dont go near that folder yourself. In WAW or COD4 the mod files go in /[cod_root]/mods/your_mod_name/

Then, when everything is ready you must overwrite the stock files in /raw/ with your files then compile. The compiler looks at your mod.csv and pick up the files from /raw/ not from /mods/your_mod_name/

I think so too, as I said, I didn't do it, because I don't even have that folder :)

For start I just edited text to see if it works

then I put this edited file

raw/ui_mp/wm_quickmessages.menu
mods/mymod/ui_mp/wm_quickmessages.menu
mods/mymod/mymod.iwd/ui_mp/wm_quickmessages.menu

update zone file -> + menufile,ui_mp/wm_quickmessage.menu
make ff

but nothing seems to work, menu is still the same :D its a mystery... I'm going to check again if everything is placed right.. I don't see any other explonation than my blind eyes and my stupid mistake somewhere :)

edit: something come up in my mind... what if I have to update zone file and do both:

menufile,ui_mp/wm_quickmessage.menu
rawfile,ui_mp/wm_quickmessage.menu

? I don't know, I'm lost ? :D

I'll make it easier, this topic is little bit confusing

I edited wm_quickmessage.menu which is saved in raw/ui_mp

Then I updated zone file - added line menufile,ui_mp/wm_quickmessage.menu

Then I made fast file, but in game there is no modification, nothing has changed

question: Why, what do I wrong... ? Please help, my deadline is 9.5.

Because you use COD4 i suggest to use the Exisitng Modwarfare Mod already there with the tools. Simply edit this file:

Code:
raw/ui_mp/wm_quickmessages.menu

Then use the Batch file inside Mods/ModWarfare and it should be copied over and compiled. Try now. Also... changing the text should be done in Localized files as the strings need precahe to show up correctly. But let's say you change this line:

Code:
CHOICE_POPMENU_TITLE( "@QUICKMESSAGE_QUICK_MESSAGE" )

By:

Code:
CHOICE_POPMENU_TITLE( "@MP_KILLCAM" )

(its almost at the top of the stock file) then in game you should see "Killcam" Rather than "Quick Message"

Now I get it... My menu file was in ff of my map, but it was supressed by mymod, where is probably default quickmessage.menu... so everything what I had to do was create a new mod in modbuilder and give him just this file wm_quickmessage.menu.

now just +set fs_game workumotherfucker and hello my table ;)

Thank you for advices
