Hey! I searched the forums and couldn't find anything, but maybe you guys know the answer. For some reason, Portals are acting as clips. To be more specific, when I shoot the portal, I actually get Dirt rising off the invisible wall where the portal stands. When I go into the editor, I'm checking both sides of the portal and have the Portal no Draw on one side and Portal on the other. Does anyone know what the cause of this is? Also, the portals were working on my earlier release, but now they seem to have fudged up. Help please!

when you created your portals what texture did you create the brush out of? - ie did you have portal no-draw as the selected texture when you actually created the brush?

it sounds like this was not the case and your portals may need to be recreated to fix the error.

That's the thing, I did have portal no draw selected! That's why i'm kind of baffled

If you ever used the clipper tool on your portals, it places Caulk on the face that you just created. I'd go around and retexture the problem brushes. You may want to do all of them just to be sure.

i myself had run into this problem in one other map, i think the issue was that the map was too big and there was too many textures...i never did get to solve the issue but i believe that is what it was.

Remember that all the edges, not just the main faces you see need to be portal_nodraw otherwise the brush functions as solid in game.

As 'Spik3d' also said, if you clip your portal brushes what ever texture you have selected will be applied to the 'cut' surface therefore making the brush solid again.

You best option would be select the entire brush and texture it with portal_nodraw then do you portal faces again.

You must place "portal no draw" texture in all Windows, Doors everything so there is no holes it must be placed perfectly

And then the Exterior side of the "portal no draw" Select with "Shift-Left Click" and select "Portal" texture that's it portal all your prefabs and all clip them everything... and once you make map it self you place then final touches that are portals for Outside


Outside portals not that much important they make higher fps cause game engine has to draw less,


and if you got portals for houses and such when your outside game engine will not draw the inside of the houses unless your looking at it or through it. That makes higher fps and higher fps is good cause the higher fps the less lag and lower ping :)







I will be making some tutorials for my DutyMod Youtube channel, about portaling and clipping since many people have asked me and i just want to help people so that they make better custom maps and more fun to the gaming of Cod :)

To be honest, i think this might be my problem! I just ran into this error for the first time when this started happening! Not sure what causes it or how to fix it! :\

oh trust me im not new at portalling, ive done my own hw and watnot on it and thats BEFORE i focused on terrains and watnot. but yea this did happen even when i selected the nodraw portal brush and then created the brush and added a portal face unto it. i just found that weird and eventually ended up taking out all the portals. never did fixed the issue but i did find that weird. The only thing i can remember clearly and very well is afew things

1. i had too many patches.

2. i had too many textures

3. the map was BIG, really big.

now idk if thats the same issue as you have sword but yea thats the only few things i can think of that caused that. and when i compiled and watnot i had no errors of any kind, but as soon as i walked around the map and moved into an area where the portal was there, it freaking acted like a caulk brush. i could shoot through it but not throw a nade through it. was very very weird. o.0
