as boring as it sounds, you gotta read some tuts.
http://modsonline.com/Tutorials-read-591.html
you dont even have to read the whole thing just skim threw and see what catches your eye.
also you have a 2d grid there you can see if your brushes or anything are overlapping you also have a 3d window, you can see for your self in there as well. |

I don't actually believe in such things, but YOU MY FRIEND HAS 666 posts :O Apart from the joking, I have built a small box once which was for a 1v1 DM.
And no, it didn't sound any strange,my friend :) Thanks for your reply. Others might have more suggestions though. I'll wait and if they agree with you, I'll just camp in the tutorials section :D

Silversh0t writes...Quote: Greetings everyone.
Let me first say that I joined this community years ago when I wanted to start learning how to make maps in cod2. I tried two times to sit and read some tutorials but got bored pretty fast because I was too noob to understand what the different terms in mapping mean.
I cant remember my old password and the email I registered( old nick was Silvershot and I hope an admin can change my email or something so I can retrieve my old account :D ) so I made a new account. And here I am, aiming to create a map which will look like my house. Yeah I know its kind of funny but that's what I want to do for a start.
I just wanted a little help from you to point me to the right direction so I can successfully learn the basics of mapping. The concept, as I already stated is to make a map similar to the house I spent the years of childhood. I know this is not going to be an easy process so I hope you can tell me what to start with. Like, it would be great if you told me to create some specific stuff so I can then use the knowledge in my main map.
I want to let you know that I have the tutorials section already in mind( and have also read some tutorials already ), but I doubt I can find basic stuff like connecting objects with each other so there is no overlapping. Thanks in advance :)
P.S I also like the modson air episode. You guys have some serious fun there :)
I'm sorry but if you truly want to make maps you are going to have to sacrifice a bit of yourself by reading tuts and practicing alot. I must say though...for me it was worth it. ![[thumbs_up]](images/BBCode/smilies/thumbs_up.gif) [/smilie |

Silversh0t writes...Quote: practise is the key to success. i know this well. and i already started reading the tuts. placed a bunch of invisible ladders in a room lol :D
question1: the ladder models i found in the xmodel folder were too high. is there any way to cut them down or something?
question2: if i want to place a lump for example on a table, is there any easier way to do it other than "aiming" where the overlapping vanishes? like select the 2 models and using a key combo, stick the one on the other?is there something like this?
Q1: You can resize a modle by selecting it and hit N to bring up the entity window and add this:
targetname: modlescale
value: X (the default is 1 so use .5 to make it half the size)
and then hit enter to see it happen....may take some playing around with it to get it right.
As far as question 2...not really sure if I understand what your trying to do |
