Hi All,

I have been following this tutorial to the letter: http://modsonline.com/Tutorials-read-452.html

but for some reason all my custom textures still show as white in game.

I know this has been asked many many times, but how the hell do you actually do custom textures so they show up on a server?

Many thanx

I just re-read the tutorial and it seems it left out the last part of the process.
Okay, if the compile is successful, then it will create a IWI file (Infinity Ward Image) somewhere on your HDD; mine is in CoD4/raw/images. This IWI file will have to be put inside the texture folder in your IWD, which should be in usermaps/your_map_name_folder.

So, to recap:
  1. if you don't have an IWD, open an already existing one (I use WinRAR without a problem)
  2. delete everything inside
  3. create a new folder inside called textures
  4. add your IWI inside this folder
  5. save your IWD as mp_mapname.iwd (be careful not to save it as mp_mapname.iwd.rar)
  6. move this folder to usermaps/mp_mapname/
  7. also put the 2 FFs here
  8. start the game and load a mod (ModWarfare will do)
  9. load your map

excellent. Thank you very much. Just what I was after.

I semi-remember reading something a while ago about .iwd files being needed, but couldn't for the life of me remember why, or in fact, where to stick them.

Again, thanks, appreciated.

Isn't the folder in the IWD supposed to be named " images " and not textures?

The only way I've ever seen it named was " images ".

I thought the folder structure had to mimic the raw folders of the game, just like in the old days of Modding. [crazy]

Good catch, Deek :)

If the custom textures are not showing up, most likely the game doesn't see or cannot read or find your images.

In my Opinion:

When I test a map before I release it, I Always leave the FF files in the Zone/English folder. I see absolutely no reason to move them out of there.

I put my IWD file inside the folder of the mod I want to run.
I either run it through the tools using a custom command line so the game knows I want to run that mod with my map using this line: +set fs_game mods/Modwarfare

OR

I run the map using the console ingame after loading the mod I want to use. Which is more time consuming when I have the tools and the command line right there infront of me.

I never use a usermaps folder, that folder is designed for servers and client communication. It isn't necessary for testing your map. I really don't see a reason to move files around. If the map works in my raw files then it will work on the server.

If you aren't sure, attach a copy of your IWD in a post or in a PM to me and I'll help you get it sorted. The format could be wrong. The placement could be wrong. The folder structure inside could be wrong, or maybe it is something listed above that you missed.
