Curious as I am, I checked for the testrun file of my compiled map. And it was done, awful, but playable, as you can see on these pics.
Some of you may want to say to me stuff like:
"Hey, nobody is born a perfect mapper, and this IS your very first map, so don't give up on everything yet... (you overreacting prickyou)", [devilishgrin]

But I feel like leaving the mapping to the pros.
Taking up too much time and troubling my mind with it constantly when doing it myself. I can design good maps on paper, or even on PC (visually), but the playability and all the technichal stuff involved isn't my cup of tea. As you can see...

The compile allowed me a playable map, but the lights are overbright everywhere. There are no shadows/dark corners anywhere. Plus, the FPS is HORRIBLE...

When standing at the south, the restaurant storageroom, looking north through the kitchen, the dining area, the streets and all the way to the hotel frontside, it's 20-30 fps...
Same fps on the streets when looking at any direction... [cry][ohwell]

I had fun though, and I'm glad I made it this far, for a first timer...

So here are some pics of the monster that I love and hate.
If anyone is intrested in the .bsp file, I can email it to you, in case you just wanna take a look on the "inside", or even finish it decently. It's 99% done, proper lights and players/flags/case/bomb spawns/locations are missing.
And the fact that is probably built totally wrong... inspite of the pretty need map design/idea.

(Welcome to
"I think this is the best map layout ever done"-town. Population: elemenz.) [lol][cry][lol]

I hate to see you quit, when you've come so far...

I can tell you all the things you did wrong, but you already know then...

And for a first time map, you did wonderful, I honestly think you simply bit off too much to chew at once...

And nothing says maps have to be big to be great, check out mayhem for example, its similar to a paintball field, and with lighting weighs in at a tiny 250K...

And to be honest most players like smaller custom maps to start with, such as myobcastles beta 4 is still the most popular, and it didn't even have a terrain at that point just a single hill, seperating the 2 castles...

If your giving in, fine, there's nothing anyone can do to change your mind, however if you wish to go on mapping, I would be willing to show you some of the simpler things that will take you far, with alot less effort/time...

*EDIT, on a side note, maybe SOF2 is not the game to map with for you, the Q3 engine is pretty outdated, some upcoming games will allow alot more tris...

yeah agreed, maybe look into halflife2 mapping, some great options there although i wouldnt know cause im sticking to sof2. Would be sad to see you quit this. I think it would give you real pleasure if you finish this final stage.. getting some help on the lighting, putting in flags and spawns and maybe even play the map once with some friends.. i know what its like leaving unfinished maps, i havent finished one map yet and i feel sh*t bout it, i do learn a lot though..

well enough chit chat, start finishing it already, cause it looks to be a good map!

Smaller map ... ?
YOU GOT IT ! [biggrin]

This is HIAN ! (Hell In A Nutshell)
Supports 40 players CTF, FASTEST POSSIBLE FPS EVER ! Cool map !!!

[lol][lol][lol][lol][lol][lol]

U LIKE ? OK ! U PLAY ! [thumbs_up]

................[rolleyes]...........................

Okay now, seriously...
I cant stop, mapping is just freaking addicting.
Either I

1- Take the time and do a LOT OF reading and experiencing
with stuff to master the techside issues

2- Do my maps and let someone else finish the portals and other possible into it which I don't handle
(I read some of the portal tut, my brains melted...)

3- Wait for SOF3 to come out and start editing fresh up

Thanks guys anyways for the support so far, been priceless help to me ! [thumbs_up]
