Hi,

I am using Win7 wich is a bit of a pain with the indexing compared to WinXP (without search 4.0) but no matter what I do, I can't find any .iwi files corresponding to the textures I make. The textures show up in level editor but without finding the .iwi's I can not get them in to my map :(

I will give any info if you ask for it, I just don't know what to include now, other than maybe I am using .tga and the A.M. tells me to use 'no tile' and 'no mipmap'.

I am just trying to do a simple texture, no special effects on it. I remember I did one last year and it worked fine, outputting one .iwi but this was enough.

Cheers for any help, please just ask for screenies or other info.

i can only assume you have followed the tut

you have your custom texture in,codmw/ texture_assets, folder
in a
tga or dds, format
asset_manager, under file
opened your .gdt ,select material, new entry, add new tex name+ fill out types, select color map from texture_assets
save
pc convert
current assets only
your image will now be in codmw/raw/images, folder
this texture should now show up in radiant under what ever you set it to
you need to add this to your map iwd to show up in your map

odd texture sized .dds, .tga is one of the most common errors , if nothing is created 1024,x 1024 and 512 x 512 are the best and most common size you would save your dds, tga as.

Many thanks for that advice, it is definately something I will look at.

I think I have fixed the problem now in terms of getting the .iwi to show, I found the answer in the tunnel tutorial, I don't thinkI was selecting Levels.gdt to start with in the AM.

I have done that now and I have an .iwi file of the texture where it should be as well as the actual texture template in the LE. Still getting white in the game but I think it is due to something else resulting in my map not fully compiling and possibly resorting back to a previous .d3dbsp - will check in a bit.

white in game means it has a custom texture, but its not reading it from your map iwd
you must have a iwd in your usermap folder
take a old map iwd that works, copy it, inside you should have a folder called images add you iwi custom images there
close and save
(hint if you delete everything from the iwd before you add your textures it will disappear, opps and you will half to start over)
the mp_usermaps iwd (is what mine is named)
" for win7 "
goes in
appdata/local/activision/codmw/usermaps/mp_yourmap , folder

you can also put one in the codmw/mp_usermaps/mp_yourmap folder but it reads from the apptdata 1

mm older vista almost same
local/ appdata/activision/cod4
there are more than 1 user on your pc
exmpl. on mine theres,- starting from desktop
computer/primary-c:/users/mikes/apptdata/local/activision/codmw/usermaps/mp_trainstation/
(you find)
mp_trainstation.ff, mp_trainstation_load.ff,
localized_mp_trainstation.ff, and mp_usermaps.iwd

users are :
all users.
default.
default user.
mikes.
public.

my folder for the game is under user (mikes)only in there is my activision folder, not under any of the other users.

Ok, everything I said in this post was a mistake so I am editiing it to this: I had only copied the .ff/.load files so the programme was still loading it from the /zone/english folder.

I can select either Custom_Maps mod or Modern_Warfare mod but the game seems to only read the files if either the .ff & .load are left in the /zone/english folder or if they are in the usermaps/mp_mymap_ name folder.

No matter what I do though, I am only getting white textures in game though :(

in tut it will tell you how to change that

Cheers colmac but I'm afraid that is the very first thing I do when I install windows: show hidden; show protected: show extensions.

I am running Win_7_ultimate_64 if that is any help for info.

I have tried a search by selecting the 'C' drive and icluding all locations including non-indexed for mp_mymapname.ff and the only place that seems to come up is:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\zone\english

This is also where the game seems to be reading them from when I load it in (tilde /map mp_mymapname).

If I take them from here and add them with my .idw to the user_maps location it also works but it will not work if I take it from there and put it in the the Mods folder.

I appreciate your time on this by-the-way, thank you (oh, happy easter too)

i work with waw , win 7 ,but i think the last patch for mw was so you can put your iwd in you mp_mapname folder, in mp_usermaps
same folder as the ff

note also that at the bottom of radiant when it finishes the compile
it shows the path to the folder it save, in blue writing ,"zone_English" is i believe where your map ff is created

when you put the iwd in usermaps with the ff, does your new texture show up ?
happy E day

my codmw custom map is in, call of duty 4 modern warfare/usermaps/mp_mymapname, inside i have mp_map.ff, mp_map_load.ff, and iwd

sometimes your iwd is made wrong and don't show up your textures
try a working map iwd, add your textures iwi from your images folder(copy them)
having a few extra textures wont hurt, and put it in your mp_map folder
hope this helps
