You know how there are countless remote control programs (like Rcon4CoD, Tatakai Serverscan, etc) that allow you to remotely control your Call of Duty / UO servers via Rcon?

Well quite simply - how is that connection established? I tried to telnet to my server on port 23, and 28960, but that didn't work.

I am looking to write my own remote control software, and know the in's and out's of the CoD Rcon, but the crucial step of establishing the connection is the only thing I am missing :P.

Thanks,
Jdawgg

Downladed Rcon4CoD and ran it.. it connects to the server through the 28960 port on the server. The local port seemed to be set randomly.

I have Rcon4CoD, but you didn't answer my question. I am not interested in using a program, I am interested in writing my own. Each program has its own little flaws and/or quirks that I don't like. I intend to write my own to use myself, and possibly release just in-case somebody else finds mine better in the ways I intend to write it.

Having Rcon4CoD can in no way help me to understand how it is connecting to the server. As I said, telnet does not work (at least on the ports I tried) so there must be some other way which if I knew how I could start to write my own software.

I already know that Rcon4CoD connects through the port your server runs on (not necessarily 28960, if your server ran on 28961 then it would connect through that port instead). But the question of HOW that connection is being established is what I need answered. It is obvious it is not Telnet, because I've tried that.
