I live in nyc.

The link isn’t working for me :(
I’ve just looked at your thread for the map (some of the pics loaded but not all). And its looks great though keep in mind looks isn’t the only thing that would help get you a position.
Some of the main reasons I got into a place I believe is…

- I’ve worked on and complete a TC project, not just on a few maps by myself. That can help shows you can cooperate and work within a team. It was important to my studio to show I could tough it out and finish through on a project.

- The project we’re doing has an urban/modern theme so doing a modern mod helped a lot with showing that I can do that well enough. I guess with that im saying if you do a lot of fantasy type stuff then a shop that does fantasy type games would be easier to get into. Game studios would look hard into the type of work you do and if it matches their goals. I’m not exactly sure if this is true in the whole industry but in my case they said to me.

- You should also show that you can work well with references/other people’s ideas. Most of what I have to build is based on our concept artist’s stuff. Building historically accurate places could help to show you can create themes from certain sources. In my case, I didn’t exactly based my mw drydock map on any exactly place but my modern streets actually look and feel like modern streets. So all that goes with how well you can design on a certain theme.

- It also helped a lot for me that I could model and blend the models I made well with my mw maps. The maps we do now are all modeled. Imo the bsp/brush based mapping system is an old system. Most new games don’t use that, just the teams that have bsp mapping in their history like id/vale/iw. If these are the places you’re going for then you’re ok for now. But for the future - look into the way epic does it in the unrealengine3+. Lots of heavy modeling to get that super-fine detailed and complex maps that players are going to demand in next generation gaming. example: http://media.pc.ign.com/media/670/670283/img_2138190.html Seems that’s the way mapping will go. Picking up an industry modeling app and zbrush could help you get into more shops.

Well that was a long type but these points are how I got in and I hope they help you too.

PS- don’t let the terrorist stop you from your dreams.
Time for me to goto bed too [wave]
