Alright, i've been asking pleasemyob, and he had to leave and i can't figure this out, i've tried and tried. I'm making a map for Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast, i'm sure it was most of the basic stuff. On there, i just created my .arena file. my map name is currently trial3, and my so my arena file name is trial3.arena. Ok, now the name will show up in the maplist. However, the problem happens when i try to start a server with my map on it. I select my server and click begin, and it just takes me back to the main screen.

This is exactly how my .arena file reads.

{
name "trial3"
longname "Dark Alliance HeadQuarters"
type "ffa"
}

for reference, here's a .arena file of a working map that i downloaded off someone else....

{
map "duel_fcaarena"
longname "FC Academy-Training Arena"
type "ffa duel"
}

I've tried everything that i can possible think of and nothing is working, any help would be greatly appreciated....

well....
i am unfamiliar with the gametypes, so i have to assume that ffa is the same as deathmatch (which is the minimum required game for the q3 engine)

all an arena file does is list your map in the map choice list

try starting your map through the console (in the console type)

devmap yourmapname

see if you can play / test your map that way

err, duh, forgot to include that part, yes i can devmap it through the console, but i figured i would have a working file, and thats not happening :( I can get it to start through the consoel though yes, just not able to vote it on, for when i click to vote it on, it says that the gametype is not supported by this map (FFA is the same as DM).
