Hi Everybody,

Names Mike.{Bergy_68}, I'm new to mapping and level design.
I have an artistic background as a 2d illustrator. The reason I started this topic is I'm starting my first map for MP Base assault. I'll most likely have stupid Questions every now and then. My plees for help. I have a great idea based of an Advanced Squad Leader senario. Called, Hill 621.

My first question is, after you compile your map to test it, (just to see how say terrain looks) do you need to provide a script to run the .bat? I followed the tutorial on making a compile file but it wouldn't run it in the game. It gave me my DOS window and said to hit any key but nothing happened.

Anyways if someone could answer this it would be greatly appreciated.

Time to go and mess with my terrain (This is gonna be one BIG hill to conqure!) See-ya...and thanks

Welcome to the site Bergy. There are no such thing as silly questions as we've all started somewhere.

Just to get the jest of your post:

You created a basic map > compiled > then you couldn't load it in the game or you haven't tried that yet?

First off thanks for the no silly questions. Yes I did try looking for it in the game. I went to create a new server to see if I could find my map with all the others..but nothing was there.

There is a little program that was created to assist in the compiling and launching of new maps for both CoD and CoDUO. You can grab it here. If this doesn't help out then try here again and see if we can get you sorted out the long method.

hey bergy - a couple of hints for you

if your map compiled....(in other words you now have a .bsp of your map) - make sure that it is in the folder uo/maps/mp/

you may have to create this folder

then, start coduo mp

click start a new server and turn pure off

then press the tilade key...it looks like this "~"

this brings down your console

type

devmap yourmapname

and press enter

(where 'yourmapname' is what you called your map...*note - there is no file extension)

your map should load[angryalien]

OK I tried the codmapmaker and what stryder suggested below both ways said no .bsp.

Arrrrrrgh...what now?

PS if a bsp should be created after it compiles...it hasen't.

Are you sure that you have created the flare workaround.
If you are unsure on how to do this then look at this tutorial.
However for it you will need around 3gigs of HD space, but theres no other way.
Also has your map leaked.
In the compile process did it show something like:

**LEAKED**
**********
If it did then its most likely that a bsp wont be created.
To sort this create a skybox (look here), if you already have a skybox then it probebly has a hole in it, in the editor, go to FILE ----> POINTFILE now a red line will apear in the 2d view and point you to the leak spot, now fill it in.
Also another reason for the leaked error is that you havnt got the right spawn points in. You need a deathmatch_spawn, and deathmatch_intermission. Rightclick in the 2d view and go to MP -----> and select deathmatch_spawn. Now do the same but place a deathmatch intermission.
If none of this sorts the problem post your compile log to see if there is another problem. (and if nothing else my posts go up[lol])

Okydoky,

I did what you suggested adwamslayer thanks. IT all worked...however now coduo has a weird error message and the game wont launch this is what it says.

Max ammo.mistmatchfor "ppsh"ammo
"silenced_ppsh_mp" set it to 355. but
"ppsh_mp" already set. it to 192

Now how the heck I picked up all that is beyond me.

Any ideas on what I should do. Im opening the map through the codmapmaker. Im also running coduo v1.51 If any of that helps.

Anyways Ill look forward to figuring this out...cause I had a dream last night and I saw my map in it LOOKED SWEET.

That ammo mismatch problem is caused by a mod that you have in your uo or main folder. Take all of the non-stock mods and maps out of your UO and Main folders before testing your map.

Hey I just wanna say thanks for all that help everybody I finally got it working and Im able to run around in it. This is to much fun!!! I have a new question now...

My bsp size is 112952. When Im in the game the skybox has this glowing surreal effect. If I look at it with the character in game and wave my gun around at the glowing areas is a trail of what im waving. IT also says in game Large Framerate 1600

Is it a mistake or something I forgot to do with the skybox or should there be no draw portal?[confused]
