I'd like to get an idea on how to create dynamic roofs rather than the traditional triangular ones.
Here is precisely what I'm talking about ( outlined in red ).

Can any pros here give me an idea on where to start / what to use for something like this? ( brushes? patches? )
A tutorial for this would be great if someone is up for the task?
Worth asking ;). |

All those brushes are, is one square, with pieces of it sliced off. Same way to make the traditional triangular roofs, but with a few more cuts.
Try this.
Practice by cutting a square brush into an Octagon or a 12 sided Polygon. Then simply cut the Octagon/Polygon in half. That shape would fit that area. Just start with a square that fits that area first. Then slice off the pieces evenly.
I find it easier to just press "E", and move the corners that way, than cut pieces sometimes. But in this case, you might be better off cutting.
If you wanted, once you have your brush, you can select the faces of the brush and turn them into patches. Got to drop-down, PATCH>Faces to Terrain. Allowing you to give them some bends for better detail. Once you have your patches, you can delete the underlying shape. |

DownloadAcc writes...Quote: 1. Create a 2x2 patch of desired size.
2. Select the patch and go to Patch->Primitives->Terrain Triangle
3. Now align the 3rd vert in the middle compared to the other 2.
4. Rotate, or flip, the patch so it is vertical
5. Copy+Paste the patch so it is duplicated
6. Edit the verts on each to make a curved section
There is no such option in COD4 Radiant, so that stumped me. Thank you for your reply though.

This helped. Mine looks like crap but I'll keep practicing lol. Thank you, Deek. Much appreciated. |

If you want to use patches:
For the upper part:
-Create a brush and turn it into a simple curved patch of 5x3 vertices.
-Rotate it around the X or Y axis.
-From the XY (top) view, create a half circle by moving the vertices (hotkey: V).
-Rotate the 2d view and bring all of the top vertices together at the center of the half circle.
-Then bring the middle vertices halfway between the center and edge of the circle.

For the lower part:
-Create a 3x3 simple curved patch
-Create a quarter circle by moving the vertices.
-Select the outer vertices and lower them N units (for my example, 64)
-Select the vertices between the outer and inner vertices and lower them N/2 units (for my example, 32)

The key is to keep the vertices in line. |
