Hi Guys,

Just thought I would sticky a topic which gets asked around the forums alot. I have seen people post about being able to walk through vehicles, saying they have followed the vehicle tutorial properly.

Well you may have done that, but your editor needs to be set up exactly right.
Take a look at the Setting up the Editor.

If you set it up right, they will work, if you don't. Well, they arn't going to are they?

Hope that helps you guys and I hope people will refer to this before posting.

Also some models do NOT have a collision map file, so there for even though everything is set up properly, you will still be able to walk through it. However just place a brush(es) over the vehicle with the metal_clip texture located in the common folder.

You can make you own collmap for xmodels that don't have one ore alter collmaps for xmodels that have one to fit to your map.

collmaps are added to the .bsp during the compile - i havent come across a model that should have a collmap and doesnt yet

some bushes dont have them on purpose - but 99% of the xmodels (including vehicles) have them (unless they are 2d)

this is the importance of setting up the editor properly - i agree
it also stresses the importance of compiling your map properly

a collmap is simply clips that have the same origin and name as your model...but in .map format

take a look in the collmaps folder of either CoD or UO for more information[angryalien]

BTW - if you are going to use it as a vehicle - you should give it bones to tag the players to[angryalien]

Make sure you've followed the "Adding Vehicles" tutorial to the letter.

And please, edit your post instead of making another post 2 minutes after your last one. You've got 10 minutes to edit posts.

Sometimes when I've made a Collmap for a vehicle or placed clip in my map, the model will appear very dark, almost black. Anyone know how to get rid of this?
