Hi All,
Again I call upon your great knowledge !
I'm wanting to put a "Fan" into my Docks/warehouse level. I was going to create it high on a wall with a light behind it.

Before I go to all the trouble, I have a quick question.

Will the shadow cast by the rotating fan react in realtime. Or will it not cast a shadow at all ?

It will cast a still standing shadow. There is however a way to make a moving shadow. I don't know how but I dit read someting about it. So you could make it so that it moves like the fan.

Hmm, nice idea... makes me think it might work with the shadow_castor texture used on each blade as a separate brush, grab all the brushes together and make it a script_brushmodel, don't forget an origin brush!
I have a radar in my map im working on at the moment, I might try the idea on that and see what happens..

I think it will stilll be a static shadow though.

The shadow will be static, because the shadows in the level are added during the compile process (flare).

depending on how complex you wanted your shadow to be you *'could' emulate a rotating shadow by creating a shadow texture....replicating your 'fan' 1 unit thick and placing it on the wall you wanted the shadow projected onto

make the shadow brushmodel rotate witht the same script as the fan

you should have an emulated rotating shadow[angryalien]
