i didnt see a proper area to put this in so i put it in one where i kno sumone should reply rather quickly or at least faster then in the HL2 areas. i was wondering where i could get a program to record wut i do so i can make a tut, i am rather good with the Hammer program so i figured i could make a tut. and also sum other things for my friends with just general computer stuff.

sry if this seems like a improper place.

camstasia is the easiest program to work with. What I have done is to record the screen as I work. At the same time, I speak into a microphone that I setup so it records my audio in real time as well. Camstasia can do all of this for you.

Since most computers, even good ones, can't handle recording live video at high resolution, you will either want to lower your screen resolution before beginning, or do everything in windowed mode. Camstasia can record a window instead of the entire screen which is a great help.

I also like to put on some fancy title work and screen transistions. It's not necessary, but I think it adds to the video. I use Photoshop and Premiere. In photoshop, I create my titles. In premiere I stick the titles on the beginning and end. Then I go through the video and look for spots that don't need to be there such as loading times when testing maps. I cust those out and sometimes add nice transition effects there such as fade.

It's not a 2 second deal to put out a tutorial, but it's pretty satisfying.

Yes, the encoder is a good way to compress the video.

You can you Windows Movie Maker to put all the pieces together.
This program is free as well.

Windows Media Encoder 9 Series will work with 2000 so thay say in there FAQ it can also record audio and video in full screen or you can set the size you want.
I made a 5 min test video with sound and the file size was 3mb not that bad I did not think that was on medium setting and it was saved as a Windows Media Audio/Video file so you could convert it over to Xvid to save more file size.
There are some free programs out there that will do this.
There are 3 programs that come with Windows Media Encoder 9
File editor profile editor and stream editor for you to mix your video with.
Just to give you that extra choice of what to use.
