About to buy a new graphics card and was wondering if anyone knew which card was better, in overall performance. Im mainly getting it for HL2/CS:S so does anyone know which card would perform best?

ATI 9250

GeForce FX 5500

Thanks

I would choose the nvidia 6800 ultra. Widely accepted compatibility with games.

I just ran into an issue where I purchased a new card (installed today). It was an nvidia 6600 with 256Mb. I wanted it to play BF2 Demo. Turns out that BF2 doesn't support this particular card which would explain my crashes. My buddy a few feet away can play the demo without problems on his 6800 ultra pcie. I can play it fine at home but I can't remember the card I have there.

I also support nvidia over ati, but I don't want to get into that battle here. [tongue]

Im not looking for the best card out there...I think the 6800 would be out of my pricerange. Im hoping the ATI 9250 or the FX5500 will run HL2/CS:S on decent graphics.
Thanks

I think I have the 5700 at home. DO NOT use the 5200.

I read somewhere that the GeForce FX 5000 series does not run HL2 very good, is this true?

Also, do you think 512mb ram would be good enough for decent loading/gameplay?

If I do indeed have the 5700 at home.. it runs great.

As for 512Ram, that is pretty low. It will run, but I think you should consider moving up to 1Gb

What is your price range as I got a GeForce FX5700LE for £80 two months back and now it is around £60 or so down the pc fair.
If they have a pc fair near you it is worth having a look down there
