Hi guys, I have read that its possible to convert maps between COD radiants. Is it true you can bring over your entire layout of caulked brushes & patches (minus prefabs, textures, lights etc) into another version (say from COD4 to WAW) so you can rebuild the map in the new game?
Will this be possible to do with the upcoming BO radiant you think? What are the limitations of this process, are there any issues with it, are all the brushes and patches saved? If I wanted to start preparing a layout now, for BO's tools release, which version of COD would I be best building it in, or does it not matter?
Thanks.

True did this to my map stalingrad too from cod4 too WaW
Quote: It will most likely transfer over, Treyarch did in fact do a lot of changes to their version of radiant for Black Ops, but it is still based on the one used for WaW, so I would use that version to map for BO. That being said there is no confirmed mapping tools for BO.
Mind telling me how you know this..there hasn,t been said
about BO modtools as far as i know....only they are being
released later....
Ps if you wanna use the CoD1 + CoD2 decompiled SP + MP map
sources from CoDEmanX and Daevius..
remember that,s still a LOT of work i should know did
mp_tankhuntwaw that was still 4/5 months work..
[but maybe i ,am a slow mapper..lol]

Thanks for the reply guys. I think we can be pretty optomistic about the tools, there is another post I made here where someone explains the things Treyarch need to make for the new mod tools, which has to do with recoding the shader and lighting tools to work on a single staion rather than a server farm:
http://bashandslash.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=88&t=3427
Regarding the origonal question, since it seems you can convert from COD4 to WAW (and vise versa I guess), so could a COD4 theoreticaly be moved converted just as easily? I know there are a few differences in hotkeys regarding patches between COD4 & WAW, but all patchwork still converts over intact yes?
Dundy, sorry I didnt follow what you meant about " CoD1 + CoD2 decompiled SP + MP map sources". Do you mean using origonal map sources like toujane etc to make a conversion for BO? If so thats not my plan, Id like to make origonal scatch design, but yes Im very aware of how long building levels takes ;)
Thanks guys. |

He was just using that reference to show that older sources have been decompiled and are able to be brought forward into the newer radiant versions. He was using that to show that it could be possible to do a caulk layout now with the existing tools and open it in a future version of radiant.
Like Dundy I make from scratch maps too but he has also used the decompiled older versions to make an old map very much up to date and made mappers choice changes to the original.
For sure, both types of mapping are very time consuming. |

remember that you can just add the cod waw textures though asset tools, turn textures to jpeg, and convert them to the new game,
(use tut, adding custom textures)
simply open map and the textures will all be there ,
the hard part is removing the models replacing them, and recreating the loadscreen, and mini maps
