Author Topic: Huh? BSP compilation ran out of memory....

Just finished my first map and after one hour of compilation i got this error:

Building light transport for everything...
90.8% complete, 1:05:01 done, 6:38 remaining
Out of memory

But the rest told me:

                CONNECTING PATHS
###########################################

.
###########################################

                       DONE
###########################################



So what now? I have 4GB ram, XP, 2,66GHz CPU...

Compilation settings on the BSP used only extra (even by combining other options no change). On C: i have 2,5GB left, on E: where the modtools are i have 8GB left.....

You can either install a 64bit OS which will then allow 32bit programs to use up to 4GB RAM (32bit programs on a 32bit OS can only use up to 2GB) or turn off the Extra option.

No problems leaving it on fast only, but why do i have those weird colors on everything? Like inverted... got 3 reflection probes, a light grid over the whole map inside the skybox, sunlight as a worldspawn....

PS: It is not the rainbow color problem, this is really more like inverted or color shifted colors (on players and some models)

I don`t exactly know how it is connected or not - problem solved easily. Added one single light to the map and all good. Random color, radius 1 so it does not mess up the remaining colors and light....

Really, no idea why that solved it, but it did. If someone has an explanation, i`m looking forward to know more about that :)

Thats a lighting error (obviously) but it's normally caused by lightgrid or reflections not being compile properly. Looking at your screenshot the world looks fullbright so my best guess would be a missing worldspawn, check your compile log, there will almost certainly be an error there, that is if your actually compiling lights?

The brightness is my ingame setting, the screens are from the game, not the editor. My monitor is set to a lower contrast so i can see better text and graphics when working, so i had to set COD brighter to compensate that.

Looked throu the log and no error shows up. Except that i got a water texture partially floating, which i think i can ignore, since it looks as i want to.

no, it is fullbright indeed, meaning that there is no lightmap being created...no lighting, no shadows, this is definitly wrong and not because of your ingame settings or lower contrast ;) did you check your worldspawnsettings like mystic suggested?

yep, the worldspawns were okay by that time. Just to keep it up - i solved the issue already by adding one single light randomly with almost zero radius. All went well later on.

I`m just curious how that is connected, because in my logic that single light could not have that effect (but it had) :)

You made no other changes apart from the light? It's strange that a single light entity could effect the world lighting.
