Hey guys, I have finally learned some of the basics and started putting a few maps together but some of them will get an "suprise" error that causes me to never be able to load the map again into radiant since the error message never goes away...

ParseEntity: { not found
GetLastError() = 0 - 0
An unrecoverable error has occured. Would you like to edit Preferences before exiting Q3Radiant?

Now if its really unrecoverable/not fixable, I will probabaly crap my pants! Is there something i can do to prevent from this error occuring???

You can give this program a shot (backup first)

http://www.modsonline.com/Downloads-full-814.html

In terms of the unrecoverable error, it may be too late for this advice, but I have 7 versions of any ongoing map saved. When I start editing each day I save yesterday's version as "mapname Monday" etc. Then I copy to a different drive. That way if (make that "when") disaster strikes I lose only what I've been working on that day. Then next Monday I overwrite last Monday's version.

I wrote a little program that will automatically backup your file at whatever interval you want to whatever directory you want. YOu just have to save your map. It will detect the change on the next interval. I set mine for 5 minutes. I don't like to have to remake too much in case of problems which you WILL have. It's called fileback and is available on http://www.dameonsoft.com in the downloads.

maybe you can edit the .map file with notepad, but first BACKUP your .map file incase u mess things up. open up a .map that is working with notepad (backed up first ofcourse) and then compare it with your .map file with the error. hope u see what's wrong with it and can fix it.

From now on I am just saving under different filenames that are somewhat similar. It just sucks to learn things the hard way, like the fact that your map might crash at any moment. Thanks guys for your help and opinions on this!!!

I found this file in the downloads! I suggest this to be added to the tutorial area! This would have given me one more chance to try and continue making the map and not deleting it...=\. I havent tried it yet but heck, i thought it was amazing that i found it! I can try to revive some of my older maps! =]

If you wouyld have searched the forums for "ParseEntity: { not found" or something similar you would have found loads of treads about this problem. So no need to make it a tutorial. People have just got to learn to search the forums.

Or is there another file you found?
