Changing a file name does not change the contents of that file. I think what everyone is getting wound up about here is the solution, what was? What exactly did you do, if you tell us all the things you tried we can determine the most likely answer and then the real cause for this error.

And that's what Ray was saying, because:

" Thats why I did it.. its a file system thing. may not even have been the file itself, maybe the entry in the filesystem for the file. who knows."

I've been mapping since MOHAA and I have never seen an error like this corrected in that way, this isn't calling you a liar but instead suggesting that something else was the cause to the problem.

the file was corrupt. i created an entirely new file. i explained the steps in detail. that fixed it.

The file was corrupt? So created a new file?

You explained the steps in detail?

Where did you do this?

Did you press 'I' and select your map contents, or did you select the complete tool option in order to copy past all brush/path and entity data into a new map file?

Because if this was the case and the answer then no it was not simply a corrupt file, but rather more appropriately an infinite brush, a node without a volume, a brush with no origin aka user error.

As an fyi I certainly was not being nasty to you and even tried to defend you as being mistaken rather than lying but now I am convinced of your arrogance and as for stating my opinion in this thread I think my experience in this topic and history in the community goes to show that I was most utterly sure of one thing; You were and are wrong.

I'll leave this thread open so you can prove your ignorance further, as you insulted me directly another mod will deal with this. I would have swept it under the carpet... oh well.
