I'm wondering if someone could look at the attached image and explain to me what i'm doing wrong here.

I'm trying to make a custom object using Maya. In radiant the mesh is visible with the correct texture applied, but in the Assest Viewer, the texture is black. It's also black ingame.
I named the texture gdt stone_railing_d.gdt

To try and investigate this i tried to make a new texture called stone_railings_texture, which i wanted to make as a world material so I could apply it as a wall texture in Radiant just to see if it was working ok. I made a new .tga file and saved the GDT file in source_data, like i save all my other custom brick textures. Then i get this error in the attached image.

Why is it saying that my mesh.gdt file is a duplicate when all im trying to do is make a brand new texture for walls?
source_data/stone_railing_texture.gdt should just be a stand alone texture, i don't understand why its even mentioning stone_railing_mesh, which is a mesh gdt using stone_railing_d.gdt

Could anyone please explain?

I've had this problem a few times, make sure your texture was saved under the correct format and also make sure you have it in 'texture assets' then...

go to source_data and delete 'stone_railing_texture.gdt'
load assman file>save_as stone_railing_texture in the texture_assets folder NOT source_data,
material>new entry
put stone_railing_texture click ok
put in your settings and open your stone_railing_texture.tga
file>save_as>stone_railing_texture (in texture_assets)
press f10

it should now work. hope this helps.

For the correct viewing in the editor and ingame your model needs a vertex color of white. If u dont give the model a white vertex color, the model appears black shaded in the editor and in the game.

I re exported the mesh after i applied the white colour verts in maya and it works. I'm sure i did that step. Oh well, thanks for the help :)
