I'm trying to make a temple roof in Radiant. I've blocked in some patches and I want to bring them into maya. I was going to model some extra geometry in maya to add details to them, like a dragon on the pointed corners etc.

I export my .mel out to my World at War\bin\maya folder

When i try and open this file up in maya it says:
// Error: Error reading file
at the bottom, and i get a flat plane thats been subdivided a few times.

I'm using Maya 8.5 and the .mel file is only 13k big. It's not like i'm trying to import an entire level into Maya or anything.

Could anyone tell me what the problem is please?

Also, as I intend to put so much detail onto the roof, do you think i would be better modelling the whole roof in maya and then dropping the mesh in radiant. I really wanted to try and do as much as i could with the patches.

cheers

Maya only likes terrain patches (keep that in mind, limited brush numbers work... but just use terrain patches all the way & curves)

Now, export to maya.

In maya, select the script editor. In the editor load your exported file, then execute the script. I've exported quite complicated terrain meshes in Maya no problem, Radiant really shows itself then as the potential modelling program that it is.
