Are the helmets and other appendages on the characters such as ammo pouches actually part of the model or are they added onto it in the game? I would like to remove them and I'm wondering if there is some sort of file that defines each character and what the character has on them.

Helmet is an attachment. "Ammo pouches" are a part of a body model ( those little sacks on the belt right? ). If you want to detach a helmet, you can create a new character and new aitype ( if it's in SP ), they are in 'character' and 'aitype' folders respectively, but it can be a little time-consuming. The alternative way is to detach helmet via script.

How would I go about removing helmets? What can I use to make a new hat/helmet to attach? Maya? Blender?

How can I find it? I've already searched for snow and germany through all the .iwds and looked at every file seeing if it was a different name. Is there away to track it? To see when I applies the skin through some script and see where it grabs it?

Or, open the xmodel file with a Hex editor and look for the materials file associated with the texture. then, find the materials file which was named in the xmodel file, and then look in it also with a Hex editor and look for the color map name.

So, in the case of the german winterlight playerbody, the IWI file is:

german_winter_color.iwi

Okay, so I know the skin for the body. Now the head, I opened the character file for it, found which head it uses which is head_german_winter_jon, opened that model up in the hex editor, it says mtl_german_winter_head but there I can't find that anywhere in the .iwds. I tried with and without the mtl, is it possible its not completely in alphabetical order?
