Since E3 is so large and full of both good and bad things, I thought I would just present you with some opinions of this year's event. I have attended the event twice in the past, but this year I am only watching from the glow of my screen.

The Event:
This year's setup at the convention center looks to be a little quieter and brighter. It probably has something to do with the power failures they had during the day. Either way, all the big guns in the industry are there showing off what they have and that's the primary reason to check out the show as a spectator.

Game Previews:
Let me touch on a few games that I have seen via camcorder and TV.

There are screenshots and camcorder videos popping up all over the place. I did the same for this site last year.

Stargate has all the characters from SG-1, but the game doesn't look innovative. It looks like nothing more than a basic shooter... something I would expect to see from the modders here. I hope they plan on alot of improvements. Fileshack

Quake IV will be a rocking game. It's a shame that it looks so similar to DOOM III, but I do expect the gameplay experience to be different. Get past the similarity of the games and we will all fall in love again. Shacknews

F.E.A.R is looking beautiful. I haven't seen any video footage of in-game play, but the screenshots concur that the gameplay will be as pretty as the scripted scenes. I also expect good things from the enemy AI. Shacknews, Gamespy

Prey is going to be a great game and even though it's using the Doom III engine, it will still come across as it's own game and not just a mod. IGN, Gamespot, Gamespy

Serious Sam 2 is going a bit too far into crazy town. Clowns and flashy gameplay doesn't mean it will be fun. I enjoy th efast pace and pretty engine of the first games in the series, but I think this one is going too far over the top. Shacknews

Alan Wake is being promoted before it's time. At the show, the only thing to see was a tech demo showing off the environments in the game. I don't expect to see anything of substance for another year. Gamespot

Call of Duty 2... it will rock. IGN

Hellgate: London is being shown at least a year before a possible release date is mentioned. However, it does appear to be nothing more that a poor man's Doom. IGN, Gamespy

Battlefield 2 is going to be what you expect... an advanced version of those before it with a better balance of weapons and vehicles. It's good to hear that the game is as fun to play as it is to watch. IGN, Gamespot

[StartRant]
Quake IV huh. I think they should name it Quake V since Doom III is more like Quake then a classic Doom. Doom I and Doom II were the real "shoot em up fast paced" (much like Serious Sam) games that the older gen of players loved so much that there was a generic let down across the board that left alot of us thinking what the heck is this when it came out? Good game and fun but it should have been called something different.

There's nothing like walking into a room with about a two dozen critters, two rockets and 8 rounds in your pistol to get your blood going only to hit a trigger that opens a hidden room with another two dozen critters and a healthpack behind them. <-----That's Doom.

BaH ! [/EndRant].

The next big game on that list will most likely be FEAR. Some of the scenes coming out of that game just look amazing. Almost reminds me of the FarCry work up.

Cheers

Doom [rocking]
I am so old I remember getting the Doom demo downloaded from a BBS. After extracting it to 5 floppy disks. Those were the days. I could never get enough of it. Setting in front of a 15 inch monitor with a high end pc (486 processor) hehe

Doom I, Doom 2, Q3 Arena, UT and RTCW (SP), Rune HOV (MP) are my all time favorites. For some reason Doom3 and the last installments of UT have not held my interest for very long. Maybe I am getting too old or maybe it's just the lack of broadband.

15" monitor? You lucky bugger, you had it all!!! I had a monochrome 14" with an ATI Wonder card that basically lied to the program.

Cheers

hehe. It was a color 15 inch monitor.
I have actually ran the original Doom on XP with a little program I found. The program even enhanced the graphics.
Really cool.

Doom was fun, a 4-meg spider graphics card, 14 inch monitor great stuff. I also loved rise of the triad (a game that was supposed to be Wolf3d-2). 2 pistols in that game rocked.

I've not seen anything of fear. Lets not forget folks that theres gonna be a hell of alot of busines going on at E3 aswell.

I never heard of the second one. Also loaded Wolf 3d on xp and it ran fine. I remember buying Rise of the Triad and it was a good one. Here we are reminising about the old stuff with all the newer, more advanced games out there. You guys must be old too. lol

lol, actually Rise of the triad was supposed to be the sequal but for some reason it became a stand alone title. It had the most funky weapons like the baseball bat of death and the hand of god and turning into a dog was great too. I actually bought it a few years back from a car boot sale in it's original box and everything but one of the floppies was currupt :(
