The error "Warning: couldn't find image for shader textures/common/clip_nosight_nothing" is a common error. That specific common texture doesn't exist, but I think it has something to do with the "caulk" texture not having a shader file attached to it. So only if you have no caulk in your level anywhere it will compile without that error. I've had this "error" with all my maps and all my compiles. And no problems here.

Now.. as for your real problem, the locking up. Does your map compile ok without the flare part? Do you run your -vis part (the second line in the .bat file) with the -fast option (I've noticed the flare running alot faster if the vis has been done -fast).
Do you get any other errors during your compiling?
What are your computer specs, because it might just be your computer is running out of memory.

Vent is the only thing I ever have running in the background while I compile. I've had it running while I compiled all my past maps without any problems. So I wouln't think it would be a problem.

I am trying to compile now without the flare.

I'm useing the default setup for cod builder I don't beleive it's
"-fast". No cod builder is not showing any other errors. However codpiler does show a could not derive lightmap for poly.... error.

amd 1.5
40 gig
1.2 gig ddr ram
ati 9200 video card with 256 ddr ram

How many of those errors does it show?

Because that means brushes (or more likely terrain patches) are being hidden by other brushes, such as a house standing on a ground texture. If you've got alot of these the compiler might get stuck trying to calculate the lightfall on these parts. Try cutting the terrain from underneath your buildings.

As for CoDbuilder not showing these errors, while CoDPiler does, this moght be due to a setting in either program, because both just make a .bat file and run the only compiler for CoD maps: q3map.exe. CoDpiler and CoDbuilder are nothing more than fancy (and handy) GUI's.

I do have a fair amount of terrain. I'll try deleting it all and see if that corrects it. The compile didn't work with flare turned off. There is no way that this map would take more than 9 hours to compile. It just hung the computer up like it was still compiling. I' will let you know what happens when I delete them all.

Alright so I deleted section of terrain and try to compile. I think I found the one that was causing the locking. I finished a compile late last night. So I think the problem is taken care of.
