K I'm building a map and my visdatasize was under the limit of 2097152....now I build a small building in the map, texture, make it 100% detail, and compile.


my visdatasize is now 7005968! WTF mate!? Anybody know how my vis size could skyrocket when all I've done is add detail brushes to the map? Taking that building out does NOT reduce the size by any significant amount...and cleaning the brushes in greydiant didn't help either. I can't find any infinite brushes or ANYTHING. What's happening? [pimp]

Sounds like another instance of your map is on top of the original.

you mean to say I duplicated my map so now I have two instances of my map in the exact same places creating a large vis size? I don't see that happening cuz then I'd be able to select all those duplicate brushes, but each wall in my map is still made up of only one brush...

In a bold attempt to see what would happen, I made every single brush in my map detail (except skybox), and compiled. My vis size came down to 5634728...which is still unbelievable huge considering every single brush is detail (I used the 'i' key to select all, made it detail, and then selected the skybox and made it structural). Also...since my previous vis size was near 2 million (the limit), my bad new size sky rocketed around 5 million...so when I make my map detail, that original 2 million vis data size unit things were subtracted from my total size. Something in my map is adding 5 million vis data whatevers and I can't find it for the life of me.

edit: I tried compiling one of my older versions of my map...the ones that had worked fine...and now (without EVER changing the .map file since its last compile), the visdata size in my old map version has sky rocketed to 9 million....I'm speechless...I just don't understand what could be happening! Could my qe3 file be corrupt? What program is responsible for compiling vis data?

q3map does the visdata. Remember one thing. When (if) you add portals, the vis data size will get bigger too.

The only other thing I can figure to try, since this is happening with all maps is to make sure you have NO custom maps or mods installed and try deleting the regsitry keys.

no portals...removed mods...deleted registries...and it still don't work.

sweet...I got it...I just re built my sky box and all was as it should be. I dunno what was wrong but it works now.
